Tires

We have just purchased a 2006 32' Winnebago Journey that needs new tires. We are new to motorhome ownership and need help locating 255/80R 22.5XRV tires and would like opinions on the necessity of using this size tire. We have found 70R's... will those work?

I would stick to the original size so that you maintain proper clearances and not effect the odometer reading.

Tire code - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Read up on the tire sizing and the meaning.

You may be looking at the wrong sources and need to go to a tire dealer that handles more commercial vehicles. I would look at tires from Michelin, Bridgestone and such major manufacturers.

welcome to the forum.

Don't be afraid to look at other brands. Michelin has the lock on using the 255/80R22.5 size numbering system, 541 rev per mile. Other brands offer the 265/75R22.5 which is almost identical in diameter and .2 inch wider in cross section based on the manufacturer I researched, 537 rev per mile.

The Michelin 255/80 22.5 XRV's tires are used on a lot of motor homes and usually available at any tire center that sells truck size tires. In the Phoenix area try S&S Tire or Purcell's. I had Purcell's replace my XRV's (your size) on my 2004 Journey 2 years ago for $500/tire--probably more today.

Good luck.
