Tire Monitoring Kit may have saved my butt

I purchased a tire monitoring kit for our Chieftain and I was installing it this morning. While doing the install I discovered that the sensor on the inside driver rear was flashing 0 psi. I thought it kind of strange and was investigating what may be wrong. That was when I discovered the side had blown out of that tire. I have no clue when it happened . Those tires are dated 2005 but looked like new. So off to the tire shop for new tires.

Corvettec3,
Isn't if funny (well not really) how things like that happen. I've been in situtations like that too. You're into something, repairing something, looking at something, and all of a sudden, you notice a situation that you were completely unaware of. We're all lucky when that happens. You at least discovered it at home where, you can do something about it at your leisure and, depending on what the minor or, major catastrophe is, you may get to shop around for the best way/deal/price on getting a remedy.

Not glad that it happened but, glad it happened at YOUR convenience. Hope you get a good deal on tires. Those darn things have taken the place of gas and diesel, they just seem to keep going up and up and up.

Happy to hear you found out about the tire before driving. Sorry to hear you have to replace them though.

I'm really looking at getting a set of TPMs. It just seems like a good idea.

So glad it happened how it did.

Tire failure can have such severe consequences in these beasts we drive around the country that it just makes good sense to do everything we can to monitor how they are doing.

Best of luck.

Good thing that you found it when you did and not when the other tire blew from overload. Also good that you are replacing the tires.

TPMS systems can and often do "Save your butt" Did mine the first time I drove with it, Found a tire loosing air on my towed... So the following Monday I went to the tire store (After putting air in the tire many times) and they found I'd been screwed, removed the screw and patched the tire, road hazard warranty total cost to me $0.00.

Not so another who did not install it right away and did over 2,000 in body damage to his towed, not to mention the loss of tire and rim.

^ Come to think of it, my dad caught his toad on fire with a failed tire. This was decades ago, but a TPMS system would have saved that little nightmare.
