brake buddy wiring

My tow vehicle is a 2005 malibu with a brake buddy (original type). i get power for the unit from the 12 volt receptable on the front dash. i have noticed that on some occasions with the brake buddy plugged in and it's compressor on the 20 amp receptable fuse will break. is there an easy??? solution to prevent this. or do i need to bring a dedicated line and receptable inside and if so how do i do that.

Call Brake Buddy they will send you a direct wireing kit. Hook it up to the battery, mount the 12 volt plug inside under the dash and plug the unit directly into it with no other accessories.

I run mine off a battery jumper/auxillary 12 volt dc supply pack. I just plug the jumper into 110 each night and charge it up.

I've run my original Brake Buddy now for five years through the cigarette lighter on my Ford Focus and my power point on my Ford Explorer. Never blew a fuse or had any electrical issues with it. I would suggest you call Brake Buddy and ask their opinion. Mine works great!!!!

I run mine off the dash accessory plug (cigarette lighter) in the dash with no problems.

When I sent my BB in for repairs. They sent me a cable for direct battery conn. They Suggest that this was the best way to go.

I've run my BB off the dash plug also, but on long trips (several days) it will run the Jeep battery down, so I got into the habit of using the DC power source.

It's just easier for me to recharge the source than mess around with starting up the Jeep every night when I stop.

That's what I did. BB sent me free of charge a 12 volt plug W/fuse that I hooked up directly to my battery. Had to run the wire through the firewall.

I also use the power outlet on the dash. I ran an extra wire to the battery from the front plug in from the coadh so it charges from my coach. This way I do not use battery power from the Jeep.

If you run the BB off the MH batt through the cable and you have a break away, what happens? Is there enough reserve air pressure to get the car stopped and keep it stopped? Just wondering.
