16.5 tires

We have an old 1975 Winnebago Minnie Winnie with the same wheels. The only thing we could find were Firestone Transforce HT (8.75/R16.5LT). I have seen them from $120.00 to $295.00 each; so shop around. Firestone did NOT have the best deal.

We bought 7 and have had them for over a year and love 'em. There is talk about converting to 16" wheels, but they are almost $100 per wheel if not more (if you can find them). And the conversion requires modifications.

We just decided to go with the Firestones.

Here's one site:

Hope this helps!

OP: do you have 16 or 16.5" rims?
You say 16 but the next poster says they had 16.5's.

Would you not just drop down to 16" rims?

Your wheels are real special on your RV. They fit 1974-1993 Dodge and 1974-1988 Ford trucks. They are "coined" or "dimpled", i.e. every other mounting hole is raised around the edge. My Winnie is older than yours and I have locating pins on the rear axles. There is a corresponding hole in each wheel to aid in mounting. ALSO, there is an inner and outer on the dual wheels (to align the valve stems).

I looked for over a year here in the NW (pickups galore) to find 16" wheels for my rig and found only two; neither of which had the alignment hole. I did find 4 in Wyoming, but the fellow wanted $100 each PLUS SHIPPING! ($35 each).
It is easy to say "just get some 16" wheels and put them on". It is a little more complicated than that on these vintage motor homes.

I refer you to my original post on this matter. The Firestone Transforce HT (8.75/R16.5) are trusted 10 ply radial tires, fit great, readily available and can be found at a decent price.

No, I don't work for Firestone

I believe this is a much less expensive route than buying different wheels AND new tires; especially if your 16.5 wheels are in good shape. I know it saved me over $600 by staying with the 16.5s and just getting tires.

Good luck in your endeavor.

i am all good with the firestones, what about the size difference needing 8.00 x 16.5, and they are 8.75 x 16.5?

Our 1975 Winnie originally came with 8.00x16.5 bias-ply tires. The replacement 8.75x16.5 radial Firestones fit very nicely.
The 8.00 and 8.75 refer to the tire width. I can easily slide my hand between the mounted 8.75 duals with room to spare.
PLUS much better ride and handling with them.

We are very pleased with ours.
