Can anyone help? I'm starting to have problems and I don't know that model my Winnebago is.

Problems:
-Gear shifter busted (where do I get it)
-Gas tank leaking
-Headlight out (can I get it at autozone?)

Thanks.

Agree Winnebago should be able to tell you if you have the VIN#

Or check this
CARFAX VIN CHECK

Great!

I'll get the vin# and go from there.

Now, the next question. Buying parts for a 1979 Winnebago, any trusted sites?

Thanks.

It looks like a 27' Chieftain.

Gas tank leaking: Remove and take to radiator shop. they should be able to repair it.

Headlight: Assuming it's just the lamp assembly, it should be available at any auto parts store. 1979 was back when everything had to meet DOT (as dictated by GE) approval - everything was one of 4 or 5 different sealed beam units.

Gear shifter: What's broken?? Linkage? Cable? Handle?? I believe it's on a Chevrolet chassis. Chevy dealer, or possibly Winnebago (doubtful).

Great advice. The Handle is intact, it's the cable. We're going to get under it tonight. I'll take some pictures.

Be back soon.

If you take a look here Winnebago has online the brochures for each model year: Winnebago 1979 Model Year. Their online plumbing and wiring diagrams don't go back that far, but they do have parts catalogs on microfiche for most 1979 models: 1975 - 1985 Parts Catalogs (Fiche). If you contact them they may be able to supply you with some plumbing and wiring info as well.

We removed the gas tank and purchased some 'gas tank sealer/repair kit'.

We also found the problem with the gear shifter cable. It's not 'tight' anymore. Here is a picture of it.

Anyone recommend how to 'tighten' it?

The mechanicals for the chassis can often be located in auto parts stores if you know the chassis is (like a "P30"). I buy parts for my vintage Class C (orphan) buy telling them it's on a GMC Vandura G3500 full-size van chassis. They are lost if I tell them it's a Midas Mini. Motor parts tend to work if I tell them what the motor is. You do not focus on it being a motorhome.
