1985 phasar

hi just bought a 85 phasar had to have towed home after 4 miles of owership tow was 60 miles,got it home it would not start, i finally put a new + feed to fuel pump leaving old +feed hooked up without that it would not run,when it did start it would overheat got air out and seemed to solve that problem,now i have no power dont know if it is tranny or what motor sound good, PO must of had some big heat problems alot of melted wires and disconected vaccum hoses,the auto warning light is on i checked fluid seems good no smell looks clean,looking for any info to get enough power to drive it up ramp,thanking u in advance john

How was it towed--front or rear up--what engine and chassics(sp)

came home on a flatbed, 2.2 renault bosh ign.not sure of chasis, other forum i think refered to it as h body i think, it has a 3 speed auto trans not sure of kind when u drive it it has no power,cant seem to drive up a ramp not sure if it is in 3rd or what, auto warning light on so i figure it is trans problem thanks for whatever help u may give john

You said something about vacumn(sp) lines, tranny may 1 or 2 hooked to it, look and see--is this 4cyl. gas it may have slipped time if it got real HOT--can,t remeber if its belt or chain

yes it is a 4 cly gas and there appears to have a spot where u can put timning light to check ,but im told that u couldnt adj timning cause it was set at factory,please tell me it is adjustable and i will try,that is what i hoped it may be cause it is hard to start also

OK you can set timmihg =used to race 4cly. look at distutor should be a 10mm or 12mm bolt along side at bottom of dist. unloosen and turn <>, if it is abelt it may have los a tooth if it is chain it may bbe to loose, and they have tensioers inside,is it overhead cam

Hate to tell you, but these units were a BIG problem and a lot of them had the owners swapping out the drive trains.

It would be cool to pop in a small block Ford, Chevy, or Mopar V-8. The OG drivetrain had problems in the diesel and gas versions.

when setting up timing belt should the white line match up with timing mark at cam at tdc

mine looks like it is off 8 teeth starts but no power if white line is supposed to be at cam at tdc
