Vehicle brake controller adjustment?

What size trailer do you have and what brake setting do you have for your trailer.
I started low below 5.0 when I left for my trip. Eventually I ended up on 5.5.

Just curious if that may have been to low. Mine is a 30 ft trailer.

I will do a very slow roll forward, use the manual brake control lever. When I start feeling slight resistance from the trailer thats where I set the auto control. Do not know if thats the right way but it has worked for me over the years.

When I towed travel trailers, to set my brake controller I towed the trailer to an large empty parking lot. I drove in a straight line and using the hand brake slider on the controller I’d put on full trailer braking. If the trailer tires locked up I would reduce the gain on the controller a little bit and try it again. I’d keep doing this until there was braking without wheel lockup. And I’d do the opposite until there was wheel lockup under full braking and then back off just until I could get full braking power without locking the wheels.

Asking others what their settings are isn’t going to be helpful. Every trailer, every tow vehicle, every brake system and controller is going to be different. What settings work for you is all you need.
