Toilet

This weekend, our toilet bowl would continue to take on water little by little, and within about 1 hour, it would overflow. The next day, the flapper wouldn’t even hold water in the bowl at all. Today, we are back to waking up to an overflowed toilet and water all over the floor. From one extreme to another. What the heck?

Lots of details like how old can make a difference but i would look at the flap and make sure it is not jamming in some way, possibly lube it with a bit of petroleum jelly (Vasoline?) or such to make it slide better but then also look at any way to adjust it?
I might expect some adjustment or repair on the valve to make the water cut off at the right time is needed.

As a work-around for now, you might just use the fresh tank for your water and turn off the pump when not using water. That'll stop the over-filling issue. As suggested before, you might be able to get the flap to seal reliably by cleaning it and lubing it.

It sounds like you'll need a new fill-valve (or need to clean it out) once you're home.
