Studs in Bathroom walls

In our 26RBSS I tried the using 3M hooks for the towels by the shower but they won’t stay on long term. The walls are pretty hollow and where I feel a stud on each end is someplace I may be able to hang something. Are the studs wood or steel? I’m assuming wood. Or if anyone has thought of a good way to hang bath towels I’m all ears. Before the hooks we draped them over the shower walls which was pretty annoying.

Just becasue Inever trust what I read on the internet?

I like to test things when I can and in this case, while I "think" you will find they are wood, it is easy to find out with a magnet or stud finder!

Then if it is wood, a good way to go is adding a strip left/right between the studs and that gives lots more space for putting hooks where you want to space them rather than only at the studs as they can be pretty scarce!

Towel Bar

We bought a towel bar from IKEA and mounted in an upper corner of our 2529RG. I filled the "oh-no" holes with white caulk. The rods on the towel bar adjust in and out. I was able to eventually find a stud. No issues after 9,000 miles,

Framing in an RV isn’t like a house. And no two RVs are built the same.

Some have wood framing, especially older RVs, and most newer, larger RVs have aluminum framing. The wood is small, not 2” x 4”, same for aluminum. And don’t expect regular spacing. Mostly framing is done only for required openings like windows and doors and corners.

Really it’s best to use places that you know must have support bracing (like that corner location in Travelkids towel bar photo in the post above) and expect the rest to be hollow. Manufacturers put specific blocking in only the places needed for items like TVs, etc.

We use heavy duty Command products for just about all items affixed to walls. Our 20lb capable Command coat hook next to the shower has held big towels for 5-years now.

Thanks for the replies. I was contemplating outing a board across the whole width to hang hooks and can feel where the studs are. The corner hook is a good idea as well. I put 5lb hooks on the wall assuming they were enough. I didn’t know there was 20 lb ones.

Here's the hook we use. I thought it was 20 lbs, but it says 5 lbs on the package. It's for use "outdoors" so moisture doesn't effect it. Like I said, we've used it for 5 years now with no issues.

That’s the same hook I used but it’s not holding up. I’ll keep trying.

We use the same hook, but just to be safe, we always let the towel dry over the shower door and then hang it on the hook.

We only use the hook with a dry towel before a shower and after the shower put it back on the towel rack. So maybe that’s why it’s lasted 5-years?

FYI based on the location of my hook I’d guess there is structure behind that section of wall… so near the door frame and shower frame. But there is a pocket door there so not much thickness.

I’ve used a version of these to great effect in several places.

We put command strip hooks inside shower. We bought two micro fiber towels for our shower, they are significantly lighter and dry much faster than regular towels. The hooks haven't failed yet. I hate to make hols into the walls.
