RV Inspection Soon--what specifics should I look for?

In about a week we'll be doing the dealership/mechanic inspection for our new 2020 Micro Minnie 2108DS.

I have made an extensive RV New Inspection Checklist for us using not only stuff scrounged from the internet but from the Kindle Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist and I've added topics I found here such as the shower issue.

Anything special and in particular you suggest we should add to our list that was a problem with your Micro Minnie (or Minnie)?

Have them explain the operation of, and demonstrate every button, dial, knob, faucet in the coach, and take notes. Have them walk you through hooking up to city water, filling the tanks, running on water pumps, and flushing / dumping all of the tanks. Watch for leaks.

I printed and read the owner's manual and created a list of all of the systems I wanted demonstrated. It helps keep you from forgetting a system.

It has been recommended by many to arrange living in it next to the dealership for two days if possible.

Thanks. I found the owner's guide. We live only about 15 miles away so is doable in our yard.

It looks like you will have a rather large PDI list to go through. Just to be polite, knowing that does not happen often anymore, I would drop a copy off at the dealership letting them know what to expect from you. Also if you are new to RVing and the operation of stuff, it helps to take a video of the piece of equipment you are operating. I do not know if you covered fuse location, lots of folks have a hard time locating all the different fuses.

I have a list of 12 defects on my 2020 Micro Minnie after 2 trips of 3 days each. Most of the defects you will find will be while using the trailer, so get out, have fun and keep notes in your phone of the problems that will need correcting. All part of owning a new trailer.

Make sure they do the following to prove it all works.

1. Fill the fresh water tank to FULL - then you can test pump, toilet flush, shower, outside shower. Test the wet bay drain process. Have them show you how to empty the fresh water tank. Tell them to have the hot water heater on prior to your arrival so you can confirm it works. Test the propane hot water heater, too. Make sure it fires, etc.

2. Ask them to turn the fridge on way in advance of your arrival to test the freezer and refridg's cooling functions. Test the Air Conditioner make it cold. And it's hard in the warm weather, but test the furnace, too.

3. Ask for tire sizes, tire dates, PSI settings, show you the axles to check for bends or out of alignment.

4. Check the battery (ies). Unplug the shore power and insure the 12v items and fridge run off of the battery and that they hold a charge.

5. Check the TVs, the Antenna, any radios, dvd players (bring music or movies or both)

Don't be surprised if your dealer doesn't know how everything works or that they haven't already checked to see if everything works. Don't let them rush you. If you get there and the batteries aren't charged, the fridge cold, the hot water heater hot and the propane tank not filled. Consider going home and tell them you'll close on the unit when they take you and your requests seriously or you'll find another dealer that will.

Don't let them give you item after item of IOUs - "Sorry, that's missing, we'll find it in a day or two and get it to you." Same for, "Sorry, that's not working right now, but we'll fix it later."

Don't let them try to sell you extended warranties, tire protection, fabric protection, paint protection, etc at closing - all of it is either junk, overpriced, not necessary or all three.

Make them work with you to set up the hitch, hitch height, brake booster, lights, everything to do with towing.

Plan on a all day experience. Be prepared at any time to walk away.

Before you close you're the most interesting person in the world. After you close you'll be some guy from a couple of weeks ago.

SPEND 2 to 4 days in TT on a camping trip starting the day you pick it up.

The dealer will never make good on "we will find that and get it to you". If you leave without it, count on finding and acquiring it on your own.

Cobgratulaions! We bought a 2018 2108DS, its been a great camper, we go for 4-6 weeks at a time. Our dealer was really good about checking everything before we went to pick it up. We got "The Equalizer" hitch and tow with a Tahoe, we've been probably 20,000 miles or more with very few problems. If the bumper has the plastic end plugs, you should replace them with better ones (we used some rubber ones that you push in to lock) we lost one while driving and I saw the hose following us down the road. A quicker cheaper solution that has lasted for three years and many miles. And, I don't worry about misplacing them.
