Rear Receiver Hitch Specs for Micro Minnie Travel Trailer

I just picked up my new 2022 Micro Minnie Winnie Travel Trailer and noticed it has a receiver hitch under the back bumper. I’m thinking I could use it to attach a cargo platform to the back of the trailer to transport bikes and a small generator but can’t seem to find the specs for the hitch or how much weight I could actually add to the back of my trailer. Anyone have a suggestion?

You can call WBGO customer service, and provide your VIN#. They can look up the spec for your trailer.

You are also going to want to be very careful about adding weight to the rear of the trailer, it doesn't take much to upset the weight distribution and cause sway issues. What I mean is even if the hitch is rated for 500 lbs (which many are) that would probably be far too much weight to lever onto the back of your trailer. The size of your tow vehicle and type of hitch will factor into this as well, so the answer can be a moving target.

Many thanks Brian. I have the same concerns. I’ll be headed back to the dealership for some warranty work that just popped up. I’ll see what they would recommend.

This is 100% spot on. I attempted to use it with 150 lbs. of weight (including a cargo tray) and the sway was awful. Add wind gusts and it's a recipe for disaster.

Many thanks all. Looks like I’ll nix the idea of using my cargo platform. Rather be safe than sorry. Really appreciate the insights.

Adding weight to the back is okay so long as you add ~1.5x the weight on the front. It's all about balance.

Filling your passthrough with too much weight would have an adverse effect as well if none were added to the back to counteract it.

I plan on adding 2 E-bikes with RV rated hitch to the rear of a 2108FBS. This will be around 150 lbs. total on that rear hitch. I'm going to carry a 2000 watt inverter in the pass through. If the trailer tows poorly, I'll likely move the spare tire behind the propane tanks and I may upgrade the 20 lb. tanks to 30 lb. as well.

Do you all think that 150 lbs. is really going to have that big of an impact on towing performance? And will I be able to remedy this by adding weight to the tongue area?

I just think there’s a lot more going on with a travel trailer. I’m assuming the gray/black tanks are rearward of the axles on the Micro Minnie, so even if they were half full you’d have over 200 lbs. in the rear. Looks like I’m going to have to do some testing to see if off-setting the bikes weights with equivalent up front will do what I need it to do.

Mine said 150 pounds. It's not a true 2" receiver but a smaller one.

The hitch rating is pretty much immaterial. The question is, how much can the TT handle? It's been my experience that TT rear hitches are intended for relatively light loads such as bicycles, not 150# or more.

Exactly right Bob. Two e-bikes alone are ~150 lbs. Add the rack itself and the fact that the entire assembly will extend past the rear of the TT 3 feet creates even more weight (and bouncing). Adding more tongue weight may help, however it's all dependent on available payload.

I believe that Winnebago indicates a 500 lb. Weight rating on the Micro Minnie rear “accessory” hitch. I’ll have to confirm when I take delivery in a few days.
I’m going to test this load, nonetheless, and see if the whole setup is really as weight sensitive as many believe it is. My prior RV I had 50 gallon fresh/grey/black tanks that I drove in all sorts of configurations with 150 gallons x 8 lbs. (1200 lbs.) of water at times and I didn’t even consider that it ever impacted handling.
