Murphy bed mattress

I have the original short queen mattress in my 2106DS Murphy bed and would like to replace it. How thick of a mattress can I replace it with. I'm concerned with closing it. Any other issues? What's your experience?

Best/Comfortable RV mattress we ever had was RV DLX Euro Top bought @ camping world,
When the box showed up and I was sure they shipped the wrong item! I could not believe how a queen spring mattress could be packed in that small of a box, whole thing was like portable generator size.

Once I made a cut in the plastic wrapping the small roll popped open full size with brute force, stand clear.

Having seen that, I'd say they can take a beating and fold pretty well.

Thanks you guys, It would be nice to put a new 10 inch mattress on it. Still shopping. I'll let you know what we come up with.

I just changed added two inch of memory foam to the top of my mattress, I actually bought new foam and glued the memory foam to the new foam to create the exact same height so that it would go in the original cushion. The original foam was like sleeping on a board and hurt my back and hips. The bed in my Vita folds in half when the slide is in. Feels so much better. Did all of this for $130

On my 2018 2108DS Murphy bed:

I replaced the original with a full sized memory foam mattress that is 11 inches tall. No problems.

I think you can. We have a very nice mattress that we bought for use in your Jayco and swapped it when we traded up to the 2108DS. It may well be 10 inches thick. It stores nicely. No worries about it at all, and it sleeps heavenly. If I get the brand from my wife, I'll post an edit.

Dreamfoam Aspen 10" Latex. Not cheap, but worth every penny.

After much research, DW found Tochta (she’s a fanatic about beds).

They build custom RV foam mattresses to suit, or one can choose from their selection.

We like ours better than our Tempur-Pedic at home.

You can choose the thickness, dimensions, and comfort level. Also not cheap, but worth every dollar, in our opinion.

Rest well...

Installed a twin size 10" hybrid mattress. Fits fine.

It just so happened that I replaced my mattress yesterday as this thread popped back up again. My daughter had a full size mattress to give away, so I thought it was as good a time as any to replace the junk mattress that came with my 2108DS and see how a full mattress works. As this was free, we got what we got, but honestly it is 3000% better than the old mattress!

Time to rant. Why on earth would they spec out the murphy bed with a mattress that's 1 inch shorter than a full mattress? Zoinks.

See the attached photos. Really, the bed would have been ok with the full mattress plopped into place, but it did bend out the vinyl-covered hardboard at the foot of the bed which I assume would eventually look bad. So I inserted a piece of maple which took up about 5/8 of an inch. This meant the vinyl-covered pieces on the side had to be shifted as well. This is all very trivial as the snaps pop right off and reveal the screws.

This mattress is about 9 inches thick. There is absolutely no difference at all in the handling of the bed. The mechanism is totally happy with it, and I'd be confident that will remain true up to at least 12 inches thick. We'll eventually get a better mattress, but this will do for some time to come. At least now I know we don't need a custom mattress as others have also confirmed in this thread.
