Minnie 2529RG Safety Recall - Missing welds on coupler

Well, we have had our 2529RG one week and now have a recall. On top of that, our dealer is 125 miles away and apparently they will inspect the welds on the couple and will replace/fix if necessary.

Oh well, I guess we will make a list of some other minor things we have found and will see if they will fix them too at the same time.

Any chance for a photo of what the issue is?

Actually, I am not sure what the issue is, as I don't have a "good" one to compare it to. With my limited welding experience, they look fine to me.

The recall just states it effects 2021 and 2022 Micro, Minnie and Voyager models manufactured Sept 9, 2021 through Oct 29, 2021, which mine happens to fall in.

No1Hunter,
We've had our 2021 2529RG for over a year now, so it looks like ours is not part of the recall. I'd be interested in exactly what was welded on yours when it's finally done.

I'm thinking I will take several "before" pictures and several "after" pictures, if they even do anything. We are still running it through its paces and if we need any warranty repairs, we will try to coordinate it all at the same time.

I will be checking mine out later today as I fall into the October 2021 timeframe

Cheers

Thanks. That helps a lot. I just checked mine and they are fine! So, next time I am down by the dealership, I will have them look at them and check the box, "PASS".

No1Hunter, Mine look very similar to yours, but I am still sending pics in to my dealer for validation.

Thanks for posting. Looks like my trailer is not on the recall.
Potentially critical problem with defective welds.

I am still waiting for a call back from the "Service" Dept at my dealership when I asked if they happened to look at this when they had it 2 weeks ago. I think I will do the same IF they ever call me back!

On a side note. It looks like I will be painting it to stop the rust that is already forming!

I hear you... picked the unit up on April 2nd, back to have the slider fixed under warranty on the 13th, now this that they informed me about yesterday... and we haven't even used it yet ! Hopefully not a sign of things to come.

we just purchased a 2529rg a month ago and are not aware of this recall. Is it possible to send me a copy of it? [email protected]

I only have the Canadian Recall Letter, however, if it helps, here is the detail;

REASON FOR THIS RECALL
Winnebago Towables has determined that a defect related to vehicle safety exists on certain 2021 and 2022 Winnebago Micro Minnie, and Minnie models. These vehicles were manufactured September 9, 2021 through October 29, 2021.
The hitch coupler installed on your RV may be missing some welds. The coupler welds could fail and may cause trailer/tow vehicle separation.. If this were to occur a crash could result leading to, serious injury or death.

If your falls within that range, you can call Winnebago with your VIN.

Mine is fine. I already have some rust as well. There is always going to be rust inside the coupler, so don't worry about it too much. The paint inside the coupler where the ball sits is always going to get rubbed off so there will always be rust in there, even if you can't see it.

Just a fast follow up.

I sent pics to my dealer, who sent them to Winnebago. Winnebago replied they have accepted the pictures, no visual inspection necessary, and the recall is now cleared from my unit.

So looks like they will accept pics after all.

That's probably because the dealer sent them. I sent them my pics when I requested my TT schematics and I was told that I still had to bring my TT to an authorized repair shop in order to get the recall cleared from my TT.

I did the same thing but didn't get a response other than the schematics even after I told them my dealer is over a 100 miles away. Dealer's so-called "Service" dept never responded to my inquiry, which leads me to believe they failed to look at it when they had it AFTER the recall came out.

Oh well, me may be in their area in a couple of months and I will make an appointment for them to "look" at it.

I'm not worried about it. I know that my coupler welds are fine. I'll let them do the recall inspection when/if I bring in my TT for something else. I am not "required" to spend my time and money for them to verify the craftsmanship of their product. Maybe if they were paying for my time and gas I would be more willing to drive over 100 miles for this issue, but they are not.

If anything, they should have to send a tech out to me to inspect it.
