Micro Minnie Slide out Topper

Hello, I just bought a 2018 2108DS and wanted to put on a Slide out topper. Has anyone with a Micro Minnie put one on? I want to make sure the wall stucture would support the rail and support arm bracket. Thanks,Steve

The dealer installed mine soon after I bought it. It works fine and does its job.

My dealer installed a slide topper on my 2108 DS as well.
It works perfectly. I never have to worry about sticks getting jambed into the top seal of the slide out. As it gets older it will be one less seal to worry about during rain storms too.
Good decision.

Yes, I believe the wall structure will support the rail and support arm bracket.

Thanks and you were right. I installed a Solaera 7.5' slide topper yesterday. I was afraid there wasn't any backing were you screwed in the support rail and support arm bracket . But everything went in great. Thanks again , Steve

Do you have a picture of your installation? We have been looking into a slide topper as well and I have been curious as to how they fit.

Here is an example. I believe the top rail is already there.

Gary, interesting video. I’ll calculate my awning...pitch...tomorrow. Not much rain in SoCal so this issue hasn’t come up. It will as I head north during the summer.

Looks like a clean installation, Steve. I don't know why they don't come that way from the factory. Good job and thanks for the pics.

That looks great. It appears it has a decent amount of overhang on the ends. Did you provide an oversize measure to get extra overhang or is that the way Solera made it from actual measurements?

Thanks! The outside box of slideout is 82" and the actual slider roof is approx 76". The Solera 7.5 Slider topper measures 90" giving it around 4" on each side. Steve

I got some drawings from Winnebago and it doesn't look to me that the 2106FBS will support a topper. In order to get enough slope and clearance for the awning the top rail needs to be up against the gutter. This puts the screw holes in a 1 1/4" void between the roof and aluminum frame for the slide opening. I confirmed this by drilling a small exploratory hole and finding the void. The slide itself does have a backer where the brackets would attach. Now to find some grey gloss paint to touch up the hole. I have sent a note off to Winnebago to see what they say but don't have high hopes.

I just want to retract my previous statement. After receiving some better drawings from Winnabago and talking with their customer support there is a horizontal 2 1/2 X 1 aluminum tube. The tube wall thickness is 3/16" and I was able to verify a wall thickness of ~1/4" (tube wall thickness and fiberglass wall board). The top of the tube is 2 1/4" an bottom is 4 3/4" from the top of the roof. The top rail for the awning puts the screw holes at just about 2 7/8" from the top of roof. I've mounted all of the hardware and just need to run out and get a tube of Geocell to seal around everything before I install the awning with the help of the wife later today.

The total length of the horizontal tube is 76 1/4". The two vertical tubes that abut it are 2 1/2" wide for a total of 81 1/2". The top rail that came with my topper is 84". Fortunately the end mounting holes are in far enough to hit the vertical rails. Just something to keep in mind if someone is thinking of going wider with a topper that there might not be any backer towards the end of the rail. So it is probably worth the effort to obtain drawings from Winnabago before ordering an awning.

Holding water after rain

My dealer installed a topper over the slide out of my 2018 2108ds but last time we camped it rained and water was hold on the awning. Is any of you having the same issue or the dealer didn't installed it with enough slope?

It could be insufficient slope. I mounted the top rail on ours butted up to the bottom of the gutter. It might also be insufficient tension on the fabric. I don't have the instructions handy but recall ours said to unroll no more than 6 inches when installing the fabric in the top rail. Anything more would not allow the springs in the roller to take up the slack. If your topper is droopy when extended I would suspect insufficient tension.
