insulating forward cargo compartment

Winter camping we found that the area around the bed that had the forward storage compartment was so cold that condensation was forming. It also made the are where are heads are colder. Since that compartment was basically outside temp and just separated by thin plywood, I decided to insulate it. Used this 1" foil faced rigid foam from Home Depot and it came out great. Don't know if others have done this but thought I'd share with the group.

It should be noted that if you are a summer only camper and want the space cooler, the foil should face out.

That material is actually faced on both sides. I didn't want to peel the foil off for gluing so for the top, I cut it to fit really tight and it's also resting on the wood framing on both ends. For the vertical bulkhead/panel, I did use liquid nails and will see if it holds to the foil. It is also in there pretty tight so I think it'll be just fine.

When you say it came out great, do you mean astatically or and an improvement in heat retention in your bedroom?
It does look good.....great idea.

Heat retention. I'm just using my hand to measure but the surfaces now feel closer in temp to the other surfaces inside.

Interesting. We’ve done a few really cold nights in our 2100BH and I was amazed at it’s ability to hold heat. I did notice small cool spots up in the front right and left corners. Felt like the cool side of the pillow and probably had something to do with single digit temps and a 30mph head wind.

The furnace worked great for four days until around 4am on the last morning of the trip. Time to trouble shoot before visiting the dealer.

Thanks for your post, it’s one of the reasons I enjoy this forum! So many ideas to improve our experiences.

I just did this mod on my new 1708FB. Wow! This really makes a difference on the cold air at the floor that seeps through the under bed storage. I also installed Lithium batteries under the dinette bench. This mod helps keep those Battle Born batteries allot warmer! Thanks for posting Randy!
