Unhappy Inside door skin splitting

I have a 2018 mini plus trailer. I live in mild climate of nor cal. Just noticed the inside door skin splitting with horizontal splits mostly near window.

Any ideas on cause?

Any ideas on repair?

It looks like you are on a Mac. That high-efficiency format is very nice at saving space and has a great image quality, but sometimes it can be a pain when you are doing things like uploading pics to a forum. When I upload to forums using my mac, I usually do a two-step process on my mac. After opening the photo in Preview, I first resize it as many forums limit the upload size to 2-3Mb. Second, I export it out into JPEG. Then the file is ready to upload.

My iPhone generates a pretty large image, so I resize it where the longest side is 25-35" at 72ppi. It seems to make files under the 2mb mark.

Adjust size is under the tools menu.

Export is under the file menu.

For this forum, I like to upload my photos as attachments.

That door looks like the one on our Sunstar.

If you look at this thread:

http://www.winnieowners.com/forums/f...or-354091.html

You can see pictures of the door construction. Specifically,

The door is a sandwich of the outer skin, foam, and that thin plastic inner skin, wrapped in an aluminum extrusion frame.

Since the cracks are on each side of the window, I would remove the screws around the inside window bezel, remove it, and see if you can glean any more information.

It could be that the inner skin is delaminating from the foam, perhaps due to temperature extremes or poor assembly.

If so, you might be able to remove the door, lay it flat, inject some glue into the cracks, cover them with something non-stick like parchment paper, and put some weight on them to stick them back down.

If you remove the bezel, please post some more pictures.

I may be inferring too much from the picture that you posted, but from the subtle shadows around the bezel, it almost looks like the bezel was screwed down too tight, compressing the foam core and depressing the inner skin a little.

I don't yet know exactly how that window is constructed. Be careful that the outside part doesn't fall out when you unscrew the inside part. I would think that it's stuck on with a sealant of some sort.

oh man...yep...IRRITANT!

Big storm rolling this today so I won't be able to mess with the door till this weekend. Hope to get to the bottom of this and see if it's something I can repair...

Question: Other than appearances...is there any urgency to this repair? Since all cracks are inside? And is it accurate to think that what is split is split...and it probably won't get worse...especially if I can assure the window is sealed properly on the outside.

Not sure I can help with the crack, but that material looks similar to a material I was able to find at Home Depot/ Lowes in the paneling section. It's a thin white 4x8 sheet that we used to line the inside of our shower when we rebuilt it. It migth be a case where you can use that to reskin the door if you can get all the pieces off? It's slightly textured, but not overly. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name/ manufacturer of the product, but it's holding up pretty well for us.

Hey, Dr Brian...

Your profile says you are in California. We also have that big storm rolling in here in San Luis Obispo later today.

Where are you located?
