Fridge options in Micro Minnie

Hello!

First post. We’re considering a small Micro Minnie. I’d love to go with the 1700BH. Only downside seems to be that terribly tiny fridge/freezer. How do current 1700 owners make that work? Bringing a cooler as well?

Alternatively we could step up to a 1800BH. Does anyone have the actual capacity spec for 1700 fridge vs 1800 fridge?

Thanks!
Brian

Yea that is a bit of small fridge at best, you'd need a cooler (a big one).

Beyond that, a few other items make the 1700BH very unappealing in my view vs 1800/2100. The dual axles in particular are much nicer just from towing, and from hauling capacity. The 1700 seems very restricted with that single axle. You will be 3300 at least when you drive off the lot, and max is 3700.. a load of water is ~250, so you have a grand total of 150lbs cargo capacity? (and while you can avoid carrying water a bit, often you have to haul grey/black water a bit to find dumpstation)

If you have kids, really look at the 2100BH, the slide out makes a HUGE difference in space, particularly on longer trips or rainy weather.

I've had a single axle smaller camper (Rpod), it wasn't bad... but having high cargo lb capacity is very nice, and having more pure floorspace is vastly nicer, even a few sq ft more really helps when everyone is inside.

I've used a cooler in the storage compartments of motor homes before, but that was mainly due to the fact I wanted to have beer/alcohol with me without worrying I was violating some state's open container laws. But we'd keep some other stuff in their too, not too bad.

A agree with the comments about dual axles. That's why I went with a 2106DS.

Would you say there’s benefit to dual axles on interstate driving?

In my experience, it is far better all the way around. Pulling forward down the free and it is much easier to backup. And, you get double the load capacity as noted above. Wouldn't go back to a single axle now!

Brian,
We have the 1800BH and really like it. We considered the 1700BH, but the extra one foot of space, the fridge location and the dual axles were a no brainer. The 1700 fridge will work for as long as you want to stay in a small trailer but the constant bending down to get anything out will get old. The 1800BH has a separate freezer door so that is a plus, but the extra space is just icing on the cake. We recently did 9 days in our 1800BH, that is about the max for an unsupported (non resupplied) trip in a trailer this size. The extra foot of space is storage between the bunk and dinette, which was huge (no pun intended) for our 9 day trip. The only down side to dual axles are the cost twice as much for tires every few years. Other than that, the stability in towing, and redundancy in having more rubber on the road if you have a serious emotional event, and the added ability to carry more than a tank of water, some clothes, and maybe a bottle of wine and a chair or two make it an easy choice. The 2100BH vs the 1800BH is slide or not, your choice. I know you just asked about fridge size, sorry if I got off topic.
