Fridge Fail
We’re about 2/3 the way through a 2 month coast to coast and back again excursion. Much of it boondocking, and some of that on BLM dispersed. Our Micro Minnie has proven itself capable but not designed and manufactured for the rigors of forest service roads. Several things have shaken themselves apart. Been able to fix all except the most recent. The mounting plate screws on the 12v Dometic compressor fridge have worked themselves loose where they are screwed into the top of the fridge. There are only two screws into the fridge at the top. The mounting bracket is securely screwed to a 1x1 backer at the top of the cabinet opening. The screws which worked out have bored out the holes in the bracket and fridge.
Im just guessing that the cabinet surround for the 12v is the same as the surround for an absorption fridge. Problem is the 12v fridge is not as deep as the absorption, so the only thing holding in the cabinet and resisting east/west movement of the fridge are the two small screws that go through the top bracket and into the fridge. The fridge fell backwards and into the cabinet. Obviously there is no structural support under the fridge. Major effort to pull it out because there is no access from the outside of the sidewall. Temporary fix was to put in a wedgie at top of fridge so we can limp back home for a permanent fix which will involve removing the fridge from the cabinet (a two man job).
Has anyone else had this happen?
What was your permanent fix?
