Some just use tape (easy). I’m planning to drill a small hole through the bottom side of the bumper and the cap so I can use a 2” locking pin.

Here you go. Gorilla tape. Three years and 20,000 miles later.

And, as they aren't detached I don't have to worry about losing them.

Buy two spares and you'll never loose another one!
Over the years I have lost a couple.
I'd probably drill a small hole top and bottom and use a tie wrap. The holes would also let the bumper breath. Of course one would have to keep spare tie wraps on hand.
Another way would to be some good grade velcro. I have used that in other applications and getting it off needed a strong solvent.

I posted a couple of weeks ago a mod I did to my bumper end caps. I drilled a hole and put a 5/16” pin in it on one side and secured the other end with sheet metal screws. Pictures were posted. Title of post Mod to Bumper. Posted on 8/11.

I lost both on our first trip... comical how badly the factory ones are.

I got 2 of these, so far so good after last 3 trips I haven't had any problems

What if I just buy one of those and keep it for a spare?

Seriously, I just bought two. I was close to drilling a hole through the bumper, but didn't have either paint or a proper object to stick through. I think this is a more elegant solution. Thanks!

I like the Wirthco answer too. It is an elegant solution.

I put a 12" piece of light nylon rope on the cap & tie the other end on the trailer

Bumper caps

The first year with our 93 Itasca, we lost one cap and about 20 feet of sewer hose on 95 in the Carolinas. When we got to Daytona I drilled a hole thru the bumper and new cap, cut and bent a wire coat hangar to put thru it and never lost it again. They were still in there when I sold it this year.

I haven't own a TT in a few years though when I did after losing them the first time I went down to HD picked up 6" PVC Pipe the entire length of the bumper. Had glued on Screw-in End Caps on both ends so I could access either end then mounted it on top of the bumper with stainless steel full circle clamps. The end caps had about a 2' square knob that I used a monkey or an adjustable wrench to open one end or the other to pull out me sewer hose and other sewer related items like caps, etc. Drilled a few holes on the bottom outside for drainage. Had this for many years on my TT. Loved it never worried about caps again nor rust.

After losing 2 this summer (new RV owner), I drilled a hole through the bumper and cap with a 1/4" drill bit a 1/2" away from the end of the bumper top and bottom. Bought 4-1/2" long bolts and painted the heads black to match my bumper and used a wingnut to secure everything. Problem solved.

They make magnetic caps. For my 2106FBS I lost the left one and have never bothered to replace it. The bumper is too small to store anything anyway. The left cap is out there somwhere along with my spare tire cover.

Smile Easy solution for bumper caps

We found an easy solution when shopping in Wal-Mart on one of our camping trips. In the camping area we bought 2 aluminum (or were they steel) tent spikes which are about 1/4-inch in diameter and 6 inches long with a little curve at the top. Then drill a hole in the top and bottom of the bumper near the corner and with the bumper cap installed (so you are drilling through it at the same time). Then feed the tent spike down through both holes with the little hook at the top of the spike holding it in place. I think the spikes were less that $1.00 each so a cheap fix.

If you don’t want to drill holes and you don’t use the bumper for your sewer hose you might try what I did. I use mine for carrying long poles. I found two pieces of strong plastic that had holes in it ( I also thought about using something metal), bought A long bungee cord And connected the two plastic pieces to the outside of the hole in the bumper guard. Now when I need to get a pole out of the bumper I just pull on the plastic, pull off the guard, get out my pole and the bungee helps keeps everything connected.

I thought you were going to say: "We walked around the parking lot and picked up caps that fell off other trailers."

I did something similar to TomC, but as usual I tend to over engineer things. I used threaded rods, small threaded knobs, and tapped the bottom hole drilled in the bumper that were aligned with corresponding holes in the plugs. Accomplishes the same thing as Tom's though.

I originally wrapped a couple turns of electrical tape on the part of the plug that's inserted into the bumper. That snugged them up quite a bit, but they worked themselves loose once in a while and had to be reseated with a sound whack.

I'll second that. Lost one cap on our first checkout run to a state park on the lake here in Chattanooga back in June - 30 miles from our house.

I bought a couple of heavier duty caps locally, but they're not staying in place for more than 100 miles or so. So I've been using gaff tape to secure them. I keep a roll in the toolbox for all kinds of similar "repairs".

I've used these Wirthco caps too. I started with one in the spring (they are sold individually) and it is still there. Last week I ordered another one and I'm set. No holes, no tape, just sound engineering. Just search Amazon for them. They are not cheap but they are unique and they work.
