Blue 2019 Minnie 1700BH paint fading
Hey all!
Our dear Bluey is fading. The previous owners waxed it often but I think the sun has damaged the siding. Now when I clean it with Maguires Gel Wash there is blue on my rags. Any hope of restoring it and protecting it?
See attached.

Just one side by the way. The other is flawless.

How old is that rig? My two cents are, if you love her, she’s due for a new paint job.

I see she was parked for a long time, with the south side getting the brunt…

Get yourself a good rotary buffer, foam pad and 3m Heavy Cutting Compound. Your going to have to work at it, possibly multiple passes. Tape off all the plastic trim or the buffer will burn it.
I won't be easy but it is possible to bring it back (see my pictures before and after)

Wow I didn’t know it’s a 2019. In that case I agree it should be able to be buffed out it’ll take an entire day no doubt but it’ll probably look like the other side when you’re done.

I must say, its pretty slow process and lots of cutting compound.
It took me probably 2 days min per side.

Great info! Thank you! I did two coats of wax for now just to ensure protection. I'll plan on a few days in the fall.

Funny we have a 2018 2108DS and we keep it covered thru the winter and the same side faded on mine.. Waxed it every year when we pull out for the summer and again before we put it up for the winter.. I'm about 99% + Winnebago uses the cheapest trash gel when building these units they can possible get.. I did work a spot this year but it took some work to get the shine back... Good luck..

The original owner thought he could wax it out and applied wax. I was told this would make it worse, sealing in the oxydization.
I started by using the Meguiars cut polish M49 then the M91 with a wool pad and both did nothing. I even tried them with a foam pad, same.
I then went with the 3M Heavy and the wool pad (better) and I then went back to the foam pad.
It took a lot of product, multiple passes and many, many hours. I have heard of ultra fine sand wet dry sandpaper, but you would not want to touch the decals. The cutting compound did not effect the decals, but I did not press hard or stay on the decals for any length of time.
It's not 100% but is 100% better.

Removal of all surface contaminates prior to using a compound is critical. You can save yourself hours of time by chemically cleaning and de-oxidizing as a first step. Applying a sealer as a final step will keep it looking new.

Gelcoat breakdown. You can buff it out to restore it, but it will fade again pretty quickly.
The nature of fiberglass gelcoat. Colors are worse than white.
Consider Colonite, 3M, or Mothers. Have never been a fan of Mequires, but sure there are fanboys for them. 3M is body shop grade.

As I mentioned earlier, I tried Mequires M49, M91 and their one step compound M67. These three products did absolutely nothing to remove the oxidization, it dried so quick and made it hard to remove the product (twice the work).
Further research suggested the 3M Heavy. This product is a little more creamy allowing one to work it more. It worked very good, wish their was even better product out their as the oxidization is super tough to remove when it comes to gelcoat.
It looks good now, but if I remove a piece of trim from the unit, it shows the buffed areas are will not back to original.
With buffing pads (wool/foam) and various compounds (cut polish, polish, wax) I spent well over $75, not to mention the hours and hours of free labor.
I did use Meguires Ceramic Hybrid wax as a final double coat.

You should try PoliGlow. I have a red Minnie that was badly faded. Looking more sickly pink than red. I bought and spent hours with pro buffer and product like McGuire’s and could not achieve a good result.
LONG story short I bought and used PoliGlow and in one day brought colour back to a vibrant red. I did the unthinkable and used 800 grit and lightly wet sanded by hand, then followed the PoliGlow instructions. Be sure to do all the final coats recommended for a great result.
I sold my pro buffer and all other products with the buffer! I had a great result with PoliGlow and spent a fraction of the time and effort to achieve a pro looking result!
