30 amp Power Cord

Looking for a permanent fix to this power cord! It's on our 2021 Minnie 2529RG and out of warranty.

Another option (if it is still making good connection) is to apply black silicone sealer to the exposed wiring and cram the outer sheath back up into the female receptacle base.

No1Hunter, yep! There are no screws on the plug, as you most likely have the same power cord, to take up the slack and reassemble. Makes me wonder how it was assembled,

What really lead me to try JB Weld in the first place was Paul Harvey. The original Epoxy JB Weld formula is still the best to this day. I really miss hearing Paul Harvey's stories. There will never be another one like him.

I would lay it out flat and, starting at the other end, see if you can move the jacket towards the "house" plug. Then, as stated above, coat it with an RTV silicone sealer (JB, Permatex 81158, etc) or even black Shoe Goo. The RTV stuff, as wells as Shoe Goo are sticky stuff. After getting it inside, I would seal the outside where the wire goes into the plug and try not to exert any pressure there in the future (in other words, cross your fingers).

If you look under the black ring, it appears that is where the pieces were originally pressed together after the connections were made. I am thinking you would destroy the plug trying to get it apart, and finding an angled replacement locking plug with the ring might be tough.

No1Hunter, I don’t want to destroy the plug trying to get it apart. After A quick Google search, I didn’t see any 90 degree replacement plugs. I’ll check tomorrow for the JB Weld black silicone, Walmart and Autozone.

Be sure you get the RTV stuff. It is thicker and stickier than pain old silicone sealer.

Just as a note for the future?
Any kind of flexible sealer will let that spot be a future failure point as it lets the wires flex really hard. That flexing/bending will break the wires pretty quickly, so be aware and watch for problems of them going open!

Yup, that is why I suggested getting as much of the jacket back into the plug - to help eliminate the flexing of the wires.

I wouldn't worry about it too much if it's still working. The problem is the cable jacket is made from a different type of plastic than the molded plug and the don't stick to each other. Not much will stick to the cable jacket, the only real fix is to replace the connector with an aftermarket variety.

I would heat that plug end up with a heat gun till it softens and press the jacket back in as far as possible, then add the goop.

I had a similar problem with my 50A plug. A guy at the hardware store suggested this. I don't remember the exact brand, but this looks like the same stuff.

I kept wrapping the cord, and the plug-back and forth until it felt solid. It's been 5 years and still feels permanent.

I had this happen on a TT. I was having it serviced for another problem and the repair guy said it happens all the time. After anchoring the other end of the cord, he worked toward the separated end, "milking" it until he could get the cover back in place.

I taped it as well.

That is what I was suggesting, but anchoring the pedestal end is a great idea. It would make stretching the jacket towards the house (TT) end a lot easier. Doing it in the sun would help also.

There's a (fiberglass?l tape available at your hardware store. Forget brand name. Soak tape in water short time, tightly wrap over separation, wrap enclosed plastic sheet around tape, let cure overnight. Sticks like crazy and cures hard. I've used it on broken wheelbarrow handle, rake, shovels. Also used it on sledge, axe, and hammer handles to make the handles "more handy". Once cured won't separate or unwrap - ever.
