2529RG Locks & Lithium Ion Batteries

Hi Everyone, Just got the 2529RG this week. Does anyone has thought of replacing the locks that came with the rig? I have heard of the CH751 locks being installed in a lot of RVs but I noticed that our rig does not have this unpopular lock. I wonder if Winnebago uses the same lock on most rigs they produce, which is my motivation in changing them. RVLocks makes a compatible door lock but the our storage compartment lock is not compatible with their offerings.

Second question - I am considering replacing the lead acid battery that came with the trailer with a lithium-ion battery. Has anyone done any research about this? I noticed that the charge controller in our unit can recharge a lithium ion battery but I am not sure if it can charge multiple batteries. I am considering placing the new batteries inside the storage compartment under the bed but I have not opened panels to see where the wiring.

Thanks,

Henry

Hello! Congrats on your new purchase and welcome to the site.

I just installed an RVLOCK on my rig last week and wonder why this isn't standard equipment of even an option. Personally, I wouldn't worry about trying to match keys because between the keypad and the included fob, you'll never use the key again.

As far as batteries, you're probably are referring to Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) not Lithium Ion. This is covered quite extensively in the ELECTRICAL | CHARGING, SOLAR AND ELECTRONICS forum. https://www.winnieowners.com/forums/f260/

I recently performed this and in a nutshell, there are no panels to open. You'll actually need to drill a hole through the floor in the pass-thru and re-route. When finished, I used spray foam in a can to fill in the void to keep critters out. As a bonus, I utilized the space on the tongue to relocate the spare tire and add a toolbox.

Good luck!

If you’re going to install LiFePo4 batteries in your pass through, you should do a second check on your charger. The standard charger on micro minis will not handle the LiFePo4 charge profile. This is the time to decide whether you want to buy the LiFePo4 battery AND a new charger, or invest in the battery and a smart inverter/charger. An inverter/charger eliminates the need for a transfer switch, so the actual cost will be about the same as buying an inverter, and charger, and transfer switch. And, installation will be easier. After installing, it frees up space on the tongue to mount a tool chest for carrying ground tackle. I recently completed these upgrades, and everything works great.
