2022 Minnie 2529RG Roof Issue

Well, I commented in the 2529RG thread that it looked like I had a roof issue. So, today I climbed up there to take a better look and this is what I am seeing. Notice that not only the seals where the sheathing butts up against each other under the rubber membrane, but it appears the nails/staples/screws they used are popping up. Bummer!

UGH!!!! I don't understand what is going on to make this happen? How can the fasteners (nails/staples/screws) that hold the "3/8" decking" down on the aluminum trusses completely fail to allow the decking to let loose? And the nails/staples/screws appear to be backing out?? Maybe it is a staples/glue connection and the glue failed, but that has nothing to do with the fasteners coming up?? Would not seem that glue would have been used, or repairing a roof leak that involves removing plywood would be much more difficult. I would think it is something that could affect all of the 2529RGs, DAMN!!! What is the last four of your VIN? Ours is 2659.

2690, manufacture date 9/2021. The interesting part is the arrangement of the fasteners. They almost seem random. You would think they would in a straight line.

So our trailer rolled off the line a little before yours. Somebody told me WB only makes five of the 2529RGs per day, but that does not work if the last four digits of the VIN are the number made. Maybe fifty per day?? If so, our trailers could have been made on the same day?? I have been on our roof several times and not seen any of this (yet!!!). I am not sure how long ours will be in the shop doing our repairs, but will find out tomorrow. I will be curious what you get from WB Customer Service.

Is yours a 2021 or 2022?

Keep in mind, we have used it a total of 7 times for a total of 1106 miles, including the 125-mile trip to bring it home. The dealership had just got into their inventory.

We brought our trailer home from Arkansas via New Orleans, San Antonio, Las Cruces, Albuquerque, and then to Shell Beach, CA for 2800 miles. Another 600 on a trip to Northern CA, so about 3500 miles total for our trailer. We hit several torrential rains on our way home from Arkansas, and surely had lots of bumpy roads. Your miles are less than many of the new trailers in CA have been towed to get to their dealers, can't be about miles. I am at a loss, beginning to think WB needs a new Engineering staff!!!

Literature I have say the aluminum trusses are every 16", that is how they can use 3/8" material on the roof. The roof doesn't have any flex based on the times I've been on the roof. Very odd that no one else has had the problem??

Hum, when I was up there today, I thought my roof felt spongy. Well, two weeks she goes in. I was hoping to do some pheasant hunting out of it this fall, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen!

I had a roof joint that looked like that (the front one) on my new Micro Minnie 2100BH. There was no sign of any leakage (everything felt solid and looked sealed) so I just kept an eye on it. It didn’t seem to be getting worse. As such, I elected to leave it alone. My working hypothesis is that dealers are likely to cause as many problems as they fix. As it turned out, I only had the trailer for a year or so. Hopefully owner number two isn’t suffering. “Spongy” doesn’t sound good, sorry to hear that.

My brochure shows them being wood on top, aluminum in the nose.

My 2100BH is not quite as bad but looks similar. Built in 11/2021. It has actually gotten a bit better after 7 months. I feel like with some heat the roof has settled in a bit. I definitely don't have too much "spongy" feeling, pretty much the same as any other trailer roof I've been on. I don't have many, if any, of the fasteners coming up however.

I'm not too worried about it, generally the roof needs to not leak for me to be happy. Feeling around the seams I think there might be some additional taping in those areas. They feel more cushioned to me than the other areas of the roof, but who knows.

The new models 100% have wood framing in the roof. Which feels slightly like a bait and switch, but I knew they had gone with wood before I purchased. Wood is a better insulator so you could tell yourself that it is better in that regard...

The roof seems like an area where the less you mess with it the better, so my plan is to just go up and do some yearly maintenance.

Also, you can see seams in the roof in this picture from the solar thread on a 2019. Smaller seams for sure, but still there.

Yeah, mine had the seal when new (9/2021 build) and was expected, but it seems to have raised a bit. Plus, if I step on the seam, it goes down to where it was new, I believe anyway. But the bumps appears has really got my attention. Something is not right with them.

Make that seam, not seal!! LOL

So, I went back up there today for another look. The bumps feel like staples or screws in sideways, but I didn't want to push too hard on the rubber membrane to know for sure. I am guessing staples.

Well, we dropped her off today. The Service Adviser said he thought the roof sheathing was screwed down, not stapled. He said they will document the issue, take pictures and send them Winnebago to see what they think. I told him I felt the roofing moving from the wind could make these "bumps" cause a leak. He said that is why he is documenting it in their computer system.

We shall see.
