Some additional info
WINNEBAGO TOWABLE
Coupler Improperly Welded
The coupler welds could fail and may cause trailer/tow vehicle separation resulting in a crash which could result in serious injury or death.
Potential Number of Units Affected: 1,517.
Winnebago is recalling certain 2022 Micro Minnie, Minnie and Voyage travel trailers. On the frames used to build these RVs, some couplers where not fully welded/welds were missing.
Winnebago service centers will inspect and if needed replace the couplers. More details on the recall are not yet available.

So is it up to us to reach out to Customer Service, or will our dealer, or Winnebago contact us directly ?
Thanks

A Norco recall
I haven’t been contacted by Winnebago, or our dealer. I would expect we would be. I have “poked around” a bit since reading the first post.
This appears to be the recall in question. It is for Norco industries the builder of frames for the RV industry (including Winnebago).
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/202...2E018-1687.PDF
It appears to be fairly limited and, if I’m understanding the problem description, fairly easy to spot.
Maybe a welding savvy person could clarify if bottom means the bottom edge of the side of the coupler, or something underneath the coupler and inside the A frame?
In looking at ours, I saw nice looking complete welds along all visible edges of the coupler joining the frame. No “spot” welds on the visible portions. But, I have no knowledge of what to look for.

I checked my welds today and they look fine. Also just go a email from Winnebago and it told me there were no recalls for my VIN number. Trailer was built August 21.

I would think, I would have noticed a problem after driving 5500 miles recently.
I’ve received no calls either. But should we expect this industry to take care of its customers, when they are obviously all about the money.

Checking with my dealer
Thanks for the post! I have my coach at the dealer in Kyle for something off on the decals of my 2100 bh. I emailed them to please check the coupler for me since they have it now. If I receive a relevant response I will pass it on. My frame has a sticker that says:
Customer: WINNEBAGO
Part:20102102
Descr: Frame Winnebago 1800h, 2100bh
MFG. Date: 8/26/2021
SN:BAL0337871

The recall effects 2021 and 2022 Micro, Minnie and Voyager models manufactured Sept 9, 2021 through Oct 29, 2021, which mine happens to fall in and, of course, I just picked up a week ago!

I got a response
The dealer contact in the service department replied to my email. I asked if my VIN was affected by the recall. He said no, that he checked my coach anyway just to be sure. His comment was that since my coach has a GVWR of 5500 it falls below the weight of 7500 lbs. He made it seem like if its less than 7500 lbs you are not affected by the recall. He did say to keep a look out for a letter from Winnebago just in case.

If they don't take care of us and our TT disconnects because of their faulty welds and hurts or kills someone, they are liable. Which means they lose even more money in penalties, fines and restitution in court. So it's in their best interests to notify people that may have faulty welds.
I have received no notice yet and I bought my TT 4-5 weeks ago.

I stand corrected, I received a letter from Winnebago yesterday (I don't check my mail everyday so it may have come Monday). I'll take a closer look at my welds the next time I'm at my TT. I'm not a professional welder but I have "some" idea of what I'm looking at and have welding experience.
If anyone does have bad/missing welds and could post a picture of them it may be helpful for other people.

I purchased mine the last week of December. I’ll look tomorrow, but think mine was manufactured in November 21.
We almost bought one manuf in September but I chose not to get that one based on how the roof looked, and figured since more people had been through it, they might have messed more things up.
I get the liability thing, but it seems most companies don’t care about things like that much anymore. Same time if your severely injured due to an accident. How much good does it do you.
Hopefully no one gets injured at all before repairs. Had we gotten the older one, we may have been one of those casualties. Without having had the notice of this.

If that’s the case, why recall micro Minnie’s, which should all fall below that. ?

Just a fast follow up.
I sent pics to my dealer, who sent them to Winnebago. Winnebago replied they have accepted the pictures, no visual inspection necessary, and the recall is now cleared from my unit.
So looks like they will accept pics after all.
