Hello everyone! Old RV'er here with new to us travel trailer. We are trying to figure out if we need a W/D sway control hitch. We have a hitch with a sway bar. just not sure to upgrade it. Any help would be great. TIA

Hi Shortie,
Tell us the make/model/year of your trailer and the make and model and year of your tow vehicle. I’m sure there are forum members who can point you in the right direction. If it’s not a Winnebago, you’ll also need to provide other info on your tt

The trailer is a Winnebago, and we will be towing it with a 2014 F150 4X4, 4.6L V8. The trailer 's GVWR is 5500, hitch wt. is 460, and CCC is 1562. the truck's GVWR is 7000, payload 1420,front GAWR 3750 and Rear GAWR is 3800, curb Wt. 5395.

My opinion (just an opinion) is that you may not need a WDH. Your F150 has a pretty long wheelbase, and as long as you don’t load up the bed, you might be ok as is. Presuming your TT has dual axles. I would try it with truck loaded in travel trim to see if the rig is level, then make a test run. Of course, I would always err on the side of safety by installing a WDH, but they’re expensive, so you may want to test first. Also, wait for input from other F150 owners on this forum.
Happy trails.

BTW: Nice trailer. Almost identical to Micro Mini 2108fbs.

I would want both sway control and weight distribution for that truck/trailer combination. It'll help you avoid exceeding rear GAWR on the truck and keep the front axle nicely planted. I'm not sure folks realize that when you run without a WD hitch, the rear axle of the tow vehicle not only supports the tongue weight of the trailer but also all the weight that is lifted off the front axle.

I was not aware of the Remington line. I feel like I've just discovered a long lost cousin. Enjoy the trailer!
