Using Roku on 2018 Navion 24D

We have just bought a Roku to use with the Insignia TV in our Navion 24D. Wondering what methods people use to boost WiFi to help this to work more smoothly when campground WiFi isn’t great. Thanks.

It’s not WiFi that’s the solution it’s cellular data and truly unlimited data plans. These plans are tough to get because just about all “unlimited” data plans have very real limits on the amount of fast data you get access to.

It can be done and we use two Rokus in our RV. But you need to do a great deal of research on this subject. Check out www.rvmobileinternet.com to start the learning process.

I thought we needed WiFi for Roku. Can it operate off of data instead of WiFi? If so I need to figure out how to use my phones hotspot for Roku.
Appreciate any help!

Yep, read that link posted above! Your phone is simply a wi-fi hotspot when you turn that function on. The issue is the "unlimited" data plans usually hit a wall on speed at some preset number depending on your carrier, say 15gig of data use. We travel with two phones and one tablet connected to Verizon, each can be a wi-fi hotspot with those limits. We use the Roku and Youtube TV, very pleased with the combo. We don't watch TV a lot in the RV but don't forget you have an antenna and amp for locals which helps keep your data usage down with the ROKU.

Yes your Roku connects to the internet via WiFi. But you’ll find it very rare that campground WiFi is good enough to stream video. It does happen occasionally but I’d say less than 10% of the time. So boosting WiFi doesn’t help.

Kayak73 is correct. Your phone can act as a WiFi hotspot but most unlimited plans top out at 15 gigs of data a month. If you watch 2-hours of TV a night with your Roku you’ll run out of data in approx 3-days.

Many of us have figured out ways around these limits but it’s too hard to explain as there are no easy solutions.

We purchased the ATT Mobley ( many threads on that device) when it was first available. Been using it ever since to provide the Cellular WiFi for our 2 Roku's in our coach, along with Computer access. Haven't had any issues with "Throttling" as of yet (~ 2 years, 40,000 miles), We also use use it in our car, and at times in our condo with a power adapter.
