rear view Camera

The picture on my rear view camera is cloudy. I thought just a dirty lens, no. So new cameras are inexpensive and thought, give it a try. Problem is there is no disconnect that i can see, probably in the wall or home run. Question is, can I cut the wire and splice together? This is on a Class-C Itasca and camera is near the roof line. Thanks, Chuck:

I think you should be able to splice in this situation. I would give Rear view safety a call and see what your options are.

On my last 2 rv's there was a connection near the rear camera, I believe within a couple feet. Look for a removable cap just above the camera and if you have one the connection is in there.

When you get your new camera, try hooking it up at the back of your monitor. (Providing the cable hooks up that is) Then you will know it's not the monitor if you have a clear picture. Hate to see you go to the trouble of replacing the camera and it's not the problem.
Good Luck.

What kind of cable? Coax or something else? If it's coax, what type? 75 or 50 ohms? If coax, you'll need two proper sized fittings, a barrel connector, crimping tool and a dab of dielectric grease to properly splice the cable.

What type of cable runs into the camera? Seems to me that if you removed the camera, the cable would have a disconnect within a few inches of the cable run tucked into the motorhome. Of course, I've been wrong lot's of times on plenty of things! -RT
