Lauan Plywood fix

Here Ya Go Paul. I picked up a piece of Lauan door material at Lowes. The 1 3/8" thickness is perfect to even out that ridge under your back and very lightweight to move it when you close the bed up. The 30" width is a great size as well, since your pillows cover the few inches under your head and I cut the length just shy of the width of the bed. I then trimmed a piece of 2x2 stock on the table saw just the right size to slide about 2 inches up into the door on the cut end and glued it in place to finish it off. To top it all off, we just bought a memory foam topper. It's all quite a pain to make up at night but a good nights sleep is worth it.

I took a photo of the 17 wires. They are coming out of the engine control computer. I'm thinking they are for options which Ford doesn't use for the motorhome prep package. They are well-sealed with a type of heat-shrink. This is all a fancy way of saying "I don't know."

I'm pretty sure those wire "stubs" are provided so the customer can wire in what Ford calls "upfitter switches" in that rectangular space on the dash above the heat/A/C controls. Think of a ambulance that needs to have switches for lights, siren, etc. There should also be corresponding wiring "stubs" under the dash with the wiring passing through the firewall to the engine room as shown in the photo above. I'm nor sure but that wiring may already pass through the fuse block. In other words, if you want to wire something that needs to connect the interior with the engine room, you already have a weatherproof connection through the firewall.

Lauan Plywood Fix

TonyOIB:

Thank you very much for the reply and photos. Yes that bed is quite a pain to make, but we love the 22M. We are going to the Grand National Rally in Forest City, Iowa this July. I should be able to pick up a few more MODS? A lot of people have some great ideas as we can tell from this Forum. Thank You again Paul

Tony, quick question, what do you do with your memory foam when you bring in the slide. They can be pretty bulky and heavy? Any tips would be great. We love our new 22m, but the slide wasn't our first choice. Just want to learn the easiest way to use it.

LOL, Eagle, that's a good one!!! We love the size, maneuverable with just enough space. Quality is impressive. And the Ford v10 motors great.

They say you shouldn't do it, but I keep reviewing my decision to buy a Minnie Winnie 22M, and I am more convinced than ever it is the perfect Motorhome for my wife & me. Here is why:
  1. It is small enough that I can park it darn near anywhere when we are sightseeing.
  2. We have the consistent & adequate galley space for breaks and lunch, as the aft Queen slide-out doesn't affect the daytime use floor space.
  3. It has all of the creature comforts of home.
  4. After a trip, I can unload it, clean the interior, wash the roof & exterior, and put my covers upon it in just two hours.
My wife says even when we get away for just an overnight trip, it feels like it has been days. Such a wonderful change-of-pace. Jump in the Eagle5, and your vacation starts right away!
May we all have many happy memories in our 22Ms.

Anticipation for my 22M

I live in BC, and got a good deal at a RV show on Vancouver island. Wife and I have fly there, pick up Coach, go on 5 day inaugural voyage, 2 day on river in Nanaimo, 2 days on ocean in Tofino, then if there are any pressing issues, get it looked at by dealer , Triangle RV, then onto ferry and trip home.

[QUOTE=blifsey;3809513]We are new Minnie Winnie 22M owners and just joined the group. We've been RV's for around 15 yrs in a pop-up, a 5'er and for last 7 years a 32' Gulfstream class C. We are also boaters and have a 19' bay boat that we tow on majority of our camping trips. So, we don't use a toad and depend on MH to get around in. With the kids grown and out on their own, we thought downsizing to something in the 24' range would make maneuvering around easier. The little I've driven the 22M since delivery on Saturday, it is much more nimble![/QUOTE

Is yours a 350 or 450 chassis? I am going to get the 22m and will be towing like you and wonder if I really need the 450 and would like an owners opinion, thanks.

Hi Marine Les, welcome to 22m RVing, Wife andI have a Winnebago Itasca Spirit 22M,2019, it has a 350 chassis, we have used it 15 days RVing so far and 5000 miles. No issues with weight, handles beautiful on highway, not to stiff but that being said I dont tow anything, I keep tire pressure at 70 psi. As you've probably read a 450 has a couple hundred pounds of Spring and suspension differences, so weight is something to take note of as you travel in 350. We have had no issue so far. Heading to Alaska in 2 weeks for a 6 week trip, that will be the big test.

Got 10 mpg new off the lot on an 800 mile trip with mountains near 10000 ft.
Put Air Lift 5000 lb airbags and it drives much better in wind, crosswind, passing tractor trailers and haven't needed to use the rear leveling jacks. Currently 35 psi air pressure.
Only thing I wish I had was a better tv antenna although it gets a few channels. See my other posts or album for mods I have made.

I have a 350. I have upgraded many things and added many things. I am at my weight limit. I do not tow a toad as of yet but I am looking into the possibility. You should be able to get away with a 350 unless you are going to r v full time.

Question for you 22M owners. I've noticed on the 22M, when the slide is retracted, it the head portion of the mattress that is pulled up and over the lower section of the mattress. Is it much of a pain to always pull the bed covers off before pulling the head section over the foot section?

Also, I would assume a memory foam topper would not work with this style of "folding" bed.

Is the mattress itself a decent mattress? Hopefully it is, since I imagine it would be difficult as heck to get a replacement mattress in a memory foam design.

Another unrelated question about the 22M. When ordered from the factory, how long does it take for the 22M to be manufactured and delivered to the dealer?

Special order would be my only option since I would insist on having an E 450 chassis.

And too bad, unlike Coachmen Class C's, swivel cab seats are not an option on the 22M.

Also, have there been many reported leaks on the partial cap found on the 22M.

There is a lot to like about the 22m, chief of which is the small, relatively nimble size. And believe it or not, the superb placement of the water pump, and related items. And the, for a small MH, relatively large outside storage compartment in the left rear. And the huge propane tank.

And if I were Winnebago, I would at least make it an option to forgo the pleasures of the oven, and instead install convection/microwave ovens. Frees up a lot of space for a pot and pan drawer.
