License Tag Question

Has anyone had any law enforcement issues / problems with covering the license tag when using bicycle racks or other rear hauling / storage systems ? When I put my bike rack or basket for extra equipment on the back trailer hitch receiver it covers my license tag . I do not use them on all trips .

Ours is offset to the drivers side. I have bikes on a rack covered, plus a ladder hanging above it. You'd have to basically drive next to our toad to see the plate on the rv. I don't really do anything that would warrant me to be pulled over other than sometimes drive under the speed limit (we keep it near 65) on some highways. in 30k+ miles we've never had an issue. I'd think if the plate was centered behind the bikes I'd be trying to mount the plate on the bike rack or move it off-center just to be sure.

While technically this is a problem, most folks who stop you will not be too inclined to go further as long as you are not one they profile for other causes and you maybe don't talk nice when they ask. It's a bad situation but I've learned to play by whatever rules are needed at the time in these situations.
Since the alternatives are so tough to work, I would go with it.

As suggested, depends on the LEO.

I carry folding dog fencing on my receiver rack which covered my plate. Picked up a cheap plate holder from amazon and mounted it to a piece of scrap metal then mounted that to the bottom of my ladder with conduit hangers then ran wire to the existing old license plate light. Thought at first it would be in my way when using the ladder but so far it has not.

The ladder on a Navion IQ I think is 1 inch tube, the 3/4 conduit hangers seem to be a good fit. I suspect your View would have the same ladder. Its also a good way to hang an extra camera. I my case I have a big blind spot looking up a hill when I back out of my driveway, now I can back out with ease..

We have been on the road for 8 years with our bicycles covering the plate and never pulled over. I think the police have better things to do.

One other consideration is are you covering your tail lights? I use a taillight kit on my VersaHaul, and I believe this is of great importance with safety in mind.
Thanks, Eagle5

You have never been stopped for having the plate on the WRONG side of RV ? I have been pulled over for the plate on my trailer being on the wrong side more than once.

We travel the western states, Arizona, Montana, California, to Washington. Maybe the central and eastern states are different. Although we drove all the way to the Keys with no problem. I do make sure the tail lights are visible.

I have a mobility scooter rack on the back of my car and although they cut some slots in the rack to assist visibility I doubt anyone can actually read the car plate through it. When the scooter is on, it is totally blocked. Harmar (rack manufacturer) makes a kit to raise the plate, but it creates such a blind spot out the back window, so I removed it. I have had the system on 2 cars over the last 10 years and have never been stopped.
