Itasca Navion Onan Diesel Exhaust

I have read on a web posting somewhere that early 2015 Itasca Navions have a side exhaust for their generators while late 2015 and 2106 models have a rear exhaust. Does anyone know if this is true? The side exhaust on my Navion is under the awning and makes outside cooking or entertaining while running the generator impossible.

If this is true can an early Navion be retrofit with the later model exhaust?

Diesel Exhaust

Moving the exhaust pipe is not really a problem, but the drawing on your link shows a re-routed exhaust with no spark arrestor. The manual has warnings on using exhaust extenders to try and redirect the fumes and how that would void the warranty. I was curious if there was a new routing of the exhaust for later versions of the Navion that I could adapt that would retain my generator warranty.

Thanks for the reply. I may end up doing something like this if there is nothing that is "officially" sanctioned from Winnebago.

On my 2016 Navion with the QD3200 diesel generator the exhaust comes out the back of the unit. Here are photos that I took of a 2016 View with a diesel generator in it. Mine looks exactly like this. No spark aClick image for larger version

Federal Law also requires spark arrestors on all exhausts when in use on Federal lands like Quartzsite and parks.
Some years ago they were checking at Quartzsite, don't know about now.

Onan Exhaust

Thanks for the photos which confirm what I had read but not seen. This also means that putting a rear exhaust would not void the warranty of the generator. I am puzzled by the apparent lack of a spark arrester but it may be the design of the arrester has changed. Off road motorcycles just use a simple wire mesh screen.

Spark Arrestor Requirement

I just checked the US Forest Service web site on the requirements for spark arresters on federal lands. The requirement only applies to off-highway vehicles. Which might be applicable if you take the Navion off-road, something I don't intend to do since it is not really designed for off road service.

This is a link to the Forest Service web site page on spark arresters:

rmclin those pictures are from the Winnebago 3D parts catalog. There may be something about the length of the exhaust pipe when requiring a spark arrester.
