That would require upgrading the View/Navion electrical from 30A to 50A.

The circuit sharing WBO implemented seems to work - with the restriction that you can't use both the induction cooktop and microwave at the same time.

50A isn't needed for one rooftop air conditioner, refrigerator and the rest.

Best if one could replace the cooktop with a two-burner LP one. The induction cooktop is a marketing gimmick and does not belong in an RV. Winnebago with the new Ekko motorhome is putting in a two-burner LP cooktop so they have realized that the Navion approach was a dumb one.

The use of the induction cooktop started with the 2020 Navion so I wonder if one could replace the 2020-2021 Navion cooktop with the one used for the 2019 Navion. I would be happy to spend the money to make the upgrade.

Yeah, but it depends on the appliance requirements. We have an induction stove, and run it on the same 15 amp breaker with an Instant Pot, with no issues.

I do like having both the induction and gas stove too, as mentioned above. When we’re not on shoreline, we have more options.

Our microwave died. Lichtsinn was able to get us a next day replacement!

With lithium batteries and increased solar, it's good to have both induction and gas burners. Especially in cold weather, prefer to use LP for heat and hot water. Electricity is much more plentiful and easier to get.

I carry a single burner portable induction unit that we use when we have hookups, which is rarely but it does save on propane on those occasions. We have a 2 burner propane cooktop and a 3 way fridge - glad I bought when I did before Winnebago started all this "all electric" leaning nonsense. Amazon lists a bunch of one and two burner portable induction units - just keep one in a drawer and put it on top of the propane cooktop cover when you want to use it.

With out slide-in camper we had a 3- burner LP cooktop and also carried a single burner electric hot plate. With shore power we would use the electric hot plate for light duy as in heating a coffee percolator or heating soup for lunch. For meals from scratch the LP range worked exceedingly well.

For us the microwave was a convenience item and we used it when hooked up to shore power and the rest of the time we used the LP cooktop and the LP oven for everything.

Seldom we we want to add heat to the RV by using the oven, standard or convection, LP or electric.

rprochnow - How did you make out with your microwave in Forest City? Did Lichtsinn get to the bottom of the trouble?

We've been on the road now for six weeks, and touch wood, have not had a problem with ours. But, I'd like to know what to expect. Thanks.

Also, we've intentionally been using our induction cooktop recently - and it has been working out great. We are quite pleased with the performance, even while dry camping.

Cheers,

Sorry, missed the post on the microwave failure.

Got it now, thanks.

Our microwave died on the night we arrived at Lichstinn's lot prior to 3 days of annual maintenance and warranty work.

The next morning, we added the microwave failure to the list of service items - and they were able to work things out to get a replacement for installation the next day.

We were very fortunate to have this happen while we were at Lichtsinn - if it had failed any other time, we'd probably would have had to wait for the manufacturer to send us a replacement and then schedule an installation (unless it was easy enough for us to do it).

Though... We also started looking for a Plan B - upgrading the microwave to a different brand/model. Best Buy had a Panasonic in stock that was 1.5 CF (larger than the stock 1.1 CF) and had more features, including convection heating at a higher temperature, using about the same power. It would have cost around $750 (including the trim kit) - but it was actually a little shorter than the stock microwave - so we would have had to come up with something to cover a short hole exposed above the MW.

But with Lichtsinn's help, we avoided any delays - and were good to go.

This was the first service visit we've made to Lichtsinn - and they were fantastic. We spent 4 nights in their parking lot - with shore power, and were able to get refills on water and LP while we were there.

We wanted to replace our punny microwave with a convection oven combo, but I’m worried about the heat the convection oven displaces. Not sure it’s adequately ventilated for that appliance in that spot... thoughts?

When buying a replacement - look for a unit that has a trim kit.

The microwave/convection ovens are all countertop units that are designed for use with a lot of open space around them.

The trim kit (at least for the units I looked at) include not only the front trim piece on the outside of the cabinet, but also venting to redirect the heat from the oven through the front vent.

So you should be OK, if you can find a unit that will fit the hole and you can purchase a trim kit designed for that unit. The trim kit we were looking for was pretty expensive, approaching the cost of the oven.

The other issue is power consumption.

Our View 24D has the microwave on a 20A circuit, which is shared with the induction cooktop (when the microwave runs, the cooktop gets no power). Both can run off our 2000W inverter when we're running off our lithium batteries. When looking for replacement ovens, we also looked at the power consumption, and selected something that used power on the order of the stock microwave and the induction cooktop.

Since countertop microwave/convection ovens are designed to operate off a standard 110 outlet - you should be OK, but at least worth verifying the power use will be OK.
