Flat tire question 2021 View

2021 VJ. Went to Forest City to Winnebago factory service. Got everything fixed in two days. Service advisor Ron, great guy. Got home and the next morning my outer rear passenger tire was flat. The local Mercedes dealer is 20 miles away. Drive it or have it towed? I really don’t want to have it towed. Anyone with experience driving with one of the rear dual tires flat? Thanks for your input.

Hi Dmarcian,
Please do not drive with one of the dualies flat, that is definitely going to overload the one remaining tire. Call a tire shop and have them come-out to where you are parked and remove the tire for repair. They will bring it back and reinstall the tire for you. A flat tire does not require a trip to the Mercedes dealer.
Thanks, Eagle5

Eagle5 is 100% correct. In addition, doing so will likely ruin your flat tire which may only be slightly damaged and repairable. If your tire overheats you could have a fire and, if it disintegrates you could have body damage.

Most insurance policies have some sort of road service coverage, are you sure your's doesn't.

Why go to Mercedes with a flat tire? That’s a job for a tire shop not the vehicle’s manufacturer.

I find manuy full service tire folks have a mobile truck setup to remove, repair and reinstall the tire onsite as it is a pretty simple job. If you feel it is ruinedlike in a blowout, tell them what tire to bring and they are then ready to do the change without lots of running back and forth.
Flat tires are a common thing and they are prepped to take care of it.

Have you tried adding air to the tire? It may be a slow leak that would allow you to drive the local garage. Assuming you have a air compressor. I keep one onboard for just such an issue. While I have removed and changed its no fun.

If you have a 2021, you may have roadside assistance for the first year.

The Views have a spare tire underneath the back of the coach. Roadside assistance should be able to swap the flat tire with the spare - so you can drive somewhere to get the tire replaced.

Since this probably won't be covered under any warranty, you should be able to go anywhere that has your tire in stock (we went to Discount Tire) and have them replace the tire.

Though it's also possible they may be able to remove the tire and fix it without requiring a replacement.

Theoretically, you should be able to swap the spare tire yourself. The Sprinter chassis comes with the jack and tools. The spare tire can be dropped down by turning two handles (though if you've added HWH levelers, there's also a bracket that has to be removed across the spare tire rack - added for the levelers).

And if you are careful, you should be able to use the supplied jack and tools to remove the bad tire and install the spare.

Though, for most of us - it's better to get roadside assistance.

That's what we did when we had an outside rear tire start losing pressure.
