Deer Whistles

I installed a pair of Deer Whistles on the Eagle5 today.
This has the potential to set a level of disinterest only seen once before, on my Zerk Fitting Thread.

To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before!

Thanks, Eagle5

Just kidding.

You installed them too low. Only raccoons will hear them at that height.

I believe Rambo had those dice in his attack helicopter.
At least the Raccoons will survive!
The last post on Deer Whistles was 2008, and it was strange, to say the least.

Deer Whistle Disorientation

According to Internet Folklore............Deer Whistles can actually work against you, disorienting the deer causint them to run back in front of you ! Hope this never happens to you............Bright lights will freeze them until you just get close enough to hit them. Best advice for "no hunting" is slow down at night to have adequate stopping room.

Dang, I haven't seen deer whistles in almost 30 years. I put a pair on the Suncruiser, and never hit one. And we were driving through some deer ridden areas as I recall...

I have had them on my 1988 F-350 Crew Cab since it was new, and I do believe the deer hear them, and back-off in abject fear.

Of course, my truck windshield is not tinted, so maybe it is just the sight of my waxed-polished dome?

Hi Thompwil,
I love it! I'm forwarding this thread to my brother, because he sells insurance. What do you want to bet that this accident report came out of his office?
Thanks, Eagle5

Hi 345 Desoto,
Pushrod beat you to that joke exactly 12 years ago tomorrow.
It is still a good one.
Happy Easter; Eagle5

I have some slightly used elephant repellent I could sell you, if you're worried.

Of course Wolf Whistles would also scare off deer, but ONLY Deer Whistles will scare off BOTH deer and elephants, keeping you and your loved ones safe. NEVER use elephant repellent, as it gives elephants diarrhea. I can't believe I have to say that. Don't they teach kids anything in school these days?

Well...I tell ya......back to 2016 or so, driving a Small Suv....and about 10am, [3hours into a 7hour trip] along a remote two lane New Mexico road [there are many!] ....and if your main squeeze sitting in the passenger seat yells out "ack!"....Just simply slam on the brakes...and as I looked to the right, an adult mule deer scampered across my hood....we missed him by inches!
So I did install deer-whistles on that unit and a small Class C RV we had and were driving on that same road the next year in the RV. As we drove around a curve another mule deer "heard" our whistles, his ears rotated a bit...he was about a few hundred yards to the left and he stopped....jumped over a barb-wire fence and was safely gone.
So...deer whistles DO work!! Amen!

My uncle who lives near San Angelo, TX has had them on all of his vehicles. It's kind of an inside family joke. Over the years, he's hit or been hit by a deer in every one of them. He reckons the deer hears the whistle and thinks it's a signal to dash across the road in an attempt to beat the truck or car. Squirrels and rabbits have some other signal they listen for, but we have not discovered their "starter's whistle". Good luck.

Hi Blubugger,
It was those deer ears which I saw rotating toward my F-350 just a couple of weeks ago that spurred me onto placing an order for Deer Whistles for the Eagle5. I believe they really do work as well.
Thanks, Eagle5

The Kansas Highway Patrol put deer whistles, correctly installed, on half their patrol cars in each patrol area a few years ago and compared the deer collision incidents on the two groups of patrol cars, with and without. The vehicles with the deer whistles had less than half as many deer collision incidents and as a result they installed them fleet wide.

They need to be installed in a location where there is air flow. If mounted as shown in the beginning of this thread they may not be effective. The height is not an issue. It is important to follow the instructions and place the two different types in the recommended driver's and passenger side orientation.

Hi Randy,
Great information; I was wondering if someone had done a fleet-wide test. The location where they are mounted on the Eagle5 is wide-open and has excellent air flow.
Thanks, Eagle5
