Cab headliner replacement

I am doing a complete headliner replacement above the cab area of my 1986 Class C Winnie Minnie. I replaced upholstery and fastened the new material to the existing paneling/foam, keeping its original shape. Now trying to re-install and I'm finding that although my sides are corners are tight and lining up the front center edge appears to be set back from the arched front a good inch-and-a-half.
Anybody know of a trick to tighten this gap or just let the plastic trim piece cover the gap and live with it?
