Bike Rack for View

Hi. We've just recently purchased a 2008 Winnebago View.

We have a couple bikes that we'd like to bring with us on our travels, what are your recommendations for bike racks? The spare tire does seem to be in the way of at least some hitch mount racks. I've also seen spare tire racks and ladder racks.

What are you using to carry your bikes (given a spare tire in the middle of the rear wall)?

Thanks for your help,
John

:welcome:

Whatever you decide on, be sure it's firmly attached. The amount of bouncing at the back end, far from the rear axle can really cause some pretty strong forces. If you use a hitch rack, you might want to also brace it against the spare tire mount. How many bikes did you want to carry? Winnebago brags that your storage compartment can hold bikes.

Ah, thanks for the link BFlinn181 - but our model 24H doesn't have that large storage compartment.

Just trying to transport 2 bikes. Good comment about being some distance behind the rear wheels.

Thanks,
John

Get a rack that carries the bikes tires in a well like the swagmam. If they a economy bikes it don't matter if they are mounted on the top rail. We like our 2 bike swagman and has held up now for over 20k miles. Not cheap but if you have good bikes they are worth it. With the spare you may have to use an extention to get the room.

We got the swagman -
was disappointed to see a small 1 1/4" receiver with an oversized expander to fit the 2" receiver... made for MUCH bouncing and twisting even WITH the extra care I took to tie them down !

Had also ordered this and this with plans to make it safe - now I'm stuck with them... because I couldn't use it any longer...

when reading the assembly instructions, the small print warranty paper fell out and the very last line said something to the extent of
"Not warranted if used on rear of rv" !!!!

The RV model has a 2 inch receiver bar and should be bolted to the hitch not just slip or lock pinned.

Thanks for everyone's helpful comments on this. Helps to hear from people who've actually used these.

When we had a B+ (not a View), we used a mount on the front of the vehicle. It was a strap-on type that normally would be used on the trunk of a car, but it worked a treat on the hood of our Chevy-based B+. This might be an alternative for you.
