On my 19VD I have the Alcoa wheels with the metal chrome lug nut covers. After getting new front shocks installed, I haven’t figured out how to keep the covers on - it’s just the lugnut covers on the Alcoa rims, not the simulator covers.
The lug nut covers need to be “pinched” onto the wheel studs. I believe there is a “Special” tool for this— I simply used a groove lock plier with a small thin rag. Place plier around nut and firmly squeeze. Pull on the cover and ensure it stays on. If its still loose, go 45 degrees to one side and pinch that side. I lost 3 of my seven lug covers after a tire shop simply slipped them on the stud. I could pull them off by hand when I got home. Need to check these everytime the tires come off.
ViewFromHere is right about that. What you can do in a pinch is use strips of double sided tape to hold them in place until you can get to where there's a tool available. (BTW, many truck tire shops will have them). Be sure every surface is clean if you use the tape. Worked for me for years. But I'm kinda lazy about driving to a tire shop just for something like that so the tape was my way to deal.

I just had discount tire install duality valve extenders. Of the 12 covers they removed, they could only get one back on to stay. Seems that these covers are one and done and not intended to be installed and removed more than once. I’m thinking about just leaving them off. Oh, and the valve extenders which you would think should be a standard item are a PITA to find, pay for and install.
There must be some way to do this. When I had the extended stems put in, they got them all back on. But when I went to a different shop for the front shocks, they could not. Not sure why. BTW for the stems, I really got lucky - Camping World had them on close out for $28 for the set including the rubber spacers
