2021 E-350 valve stem placement

We’re ready to hit the road for a small week long trip in our new 22M. I went to check the tire pressures and I was able to do the front tires fairly easily, even with the wheel covers on. But when I tried the rears, the outside tires had a right angle valve stem facing inward and the inside tires were inaccessible as well. I’m thinking of taking it to the commercial truck tire place near me and having them either move the existing valve stems or put new ones on so I can check/fill the tires if needed. The 22M is a 2021 on the E-350 chassis. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem when I added TPMS sensors to the rear wheels of my E350 based Thor Axis. I added 1-1/4” extenders made by Slime which worked great.

But better to replace the stems with longer ones as you propose to eliminate the source of a possible leak where they join.

Hi Ron,
There is nothing wrong with your valve stems. All you need is the right tool for the right job!
Oasser Tire Inflator with Gauge Tire Pressure Gauge Inflator
Have a great trip!
Thanks, Eagle5

Thanks Eagle. I’ll order one of those. It would probably be easier to check the pressures if I removed those wheel covers too.

Hi Ron,
I bought a pry-bar from Harbor Freight to remove my wheel covers. It is about 20" long with a screwdriver-type handle and is curved.
I do not remove my wheel covers to check tire pressures.
Do you have a compressor at home?
Thanks, Eagle5

I do have one of those larger Craftsman shop compressors at home Eagle. I was a little perplexed when I saw the outside tire valve stem facing inwards towards the inside tire. But I see the attachments you got with your air pressure kit would work. Just have to “Finnagle” it a bit. That rear wheel cover looks like a pain to take off and on.

Yes, I would be very careful to select a proper pry bar to remove a wheel cover. A straight bar might bend the lip of the cover.
Glad you have a compressor!

Eagle, Thank you for sharing…just sent it to my hubby. We have learned a lot from this invaluable forum.

My RV technician (Kremer Services of Inver Grove Heights MN) installed new valve stems on the rear dualies that are accessible without removing the wheel covers. The cost for the materials and labor was around $225 (in 2018) and was well worth it. We carry a small air compressor in the toad which comes in handy, no more waits at air pumps or struggles to get access to them at gas stations. We now use the TST TPMS which is far superior to the tire traker system we wasted $500 on originally and had nothing but problems with.
