12v electrical tap

Hello.
I need to find a small gauge wire that is hot when the rv is running. There are 2 likely candidates in the area I need to access: 1 red & 1 black.
Any suggestions on which wire to use will be appreciated.
Thanks
Jktb

Wire colors are not always uniform across all uses, so it will need to be considered a lot more. First might be what part of what RV you are finding these wires. Got any idea of what those wires feed? If the red and black are a pair, it "might" be true that the red is positive but doing that sort of guess is kind of hazardous when dealing with electricity.
Do you have some method of testing? If not, you run a pretty good risk of blowing a fuse somewhere and that leaves you in much deeper than now as you have to sort out where that fuse might be.

Whereabouts does this circuit need to be? I use Add-A-Fuse’s to pull directly from the fuse panel. You can find them on Amazon. I bought a 10 pack...

Ideally the fuse panel will have a spare location or three.

They’re under the dash and might go to the radio. I appreciate your good advice regarding possible fuse issues.
Thank you.

Thank you, Richard. I’ll try finding an empty fuse feed and try that.

Jim-

Some questions:

1) What are the year and model of your Winnebago Class C?
2) What chassis is it built on?
3) What will the new wiring serve, and where will it be mounted?

The wiring diagrams for your coach are available at this link. Sometimes they can help identify unused circuits.

If it's built on a Ford F-350/450 chassis, you may be able to use one of the "extra" circuits that Ford provides for "customer" use.

On an different topic, you should add a signature to your user profile. It contains whatever info you want; most people put info about their coach there, so they don't have to type it into each message. To create/edit a signature, click on the "User CP" link in the orange bar at the top, then click on "Edit Signature."
