New winnie for me.

Hello all I'm new to this group and am retiring in June, We just bought a 2003 Winnebago brave 34d and waiting to pick it up from the Rv dealer who is going to fix anything that's wrong with it. Any suggestions on things to look for to make sure it's working. Thanks in advance for any help giving.

Have you driven it. If not make sure you do. They are a big box on wheels and not a sports car or a pickup. It shouldnt pull one way or have excessive play in the steering wheel.

Most reputable dealers will take a few hours walking you through everything and run them also. Refer may even be on to be sure it works. Check it with both with ac and gas. Fire up water heater and also generator. Make sure gen will take load of one or both air conditioners.

Ideally spending a night in it at lot would be great. I have read that some have done that but we never had.

Hope all goes well and you enjoy your coach as much as we have ours

Thanks, I had a 37 footer before this one so I'm somewhat familiar with the handling aspects, I will try and fire up everything to make sure it works thanks again.

Check the tire date codes, make sure that they are recently replaced, and not original tires.

Also, check all chassis hoses that you can visually inspect. Your coach is 12+ years old, (probably built in 2002), and the rubber/plastic parts have all deteriorated to some extent. Also check all the window seals.

Test the water system. Use the water pump, and also connect to city water. Look for leaks under the cabinets and at the water center outside.

Check the electrical systems. Run the generator under full load, (all A/C units and microwave, and lights on at the same time). Make sure the batteries are in good shape. Make sure the batteries are charging when connected to shore power.

And, carefully examine the exterior body for leaks, repairs, and assembly. The entire rear endcap of my shiny brand new Winnebago motorhome fell off while still covered under warranty. A used 12+ year old motorhome has experienced alot of rattling in its life.

Most dealerships selling a used motorhome, (especially a Winnie), make sure the floors, carpeting, cabinets, and bathroom, and vinyl are all clean. But check drawer slides, hinges, light switches, locks, pocket doors, latches. Make sure all "fold out" items are intact with no missing parts such as necessary legs, mattresses, tables, etc...

Make sure all cabinet gaps and warping due to use and age, (to each other and the ceiling), have been repaired. Make sure all floor, walls, ceiling, and woodwork nicks, cracks, scratches, and gouges have been repaired.

Thanks for the reply, the date codes for the tires are 2008 on the rear and 2010 on the front so new tires are in the plan, some of the others suggestions I never thought of so I'll be looking into those, thanks for that.

The basement a/c systems are two stage. When on shore power turn the stat on and crank it way down in temp. The first stage will start as well as the fan. Amps on the board should be 10-15. After about 20 seconds the fan pauses and the second stage starts. The amps should go to 18-28 and the fans continue. While on generator the second stage bypasses the amp meter so you can't tell if the second compressor is running. Insist rv is plugged in to check operations.
Otherwise these rv models were designed well and mass produced so they got very good at making them without defects.
Good luck

I agree with BeachDude on the tire date...I asked the dealer who said the previous owner replaced them 2 years ago. Two months ago 400 miles from home RF tire blew. They were 8 YO tires. Now the rig has 6, 6 month old tires on it.
