Winnebago journey 2011 engine compartment door

I have a problem with the door to the engine compartment the grill on the door has come loose from the door. It seems that the grill was affixed with some sort of rubber salient, with no screws. Has anyone had this issues. If so how was it fixed?

Just had the same problem. I checked with the dealer and he said they are epoxied on but that you needed special epoxy and a special tool to reattach them. Okay.

Got some JB Weld and after cleaning the attachment point, put a dab under each attachment point, used plastic ties to hold them in place till dry. Just came back from an 800 mile trip half of it in driving rain. NO problem!

The right side of mine came off, they reattached it at the factory while they finished up our 1 yr warranty items in Feb. Some folks have used stainless steel carriage bolts.

You would think WB would have learned by now that the epoxy system they use doesn't work. I had to re epoxy both my front hood and rear engine hatch and mine was done back in 2007 shortly after I purchased it new.

I used a generic epoxy from Home Depot. Since I did the work, the hood and hatch have remained tightly bonded.

Best Regards!

Of all the years this has been going on and reported in all the forums, I have never once read of anyone needing to go back and do it a second time. Which leaves only one conclusion: It is and continues to be lousy workmanship by the factory. It's the prep, the epoxy (unlikely), or the application. But it's pretty obvious that any garden variety epoxy is doing the job.

Hopefully someone at the factory scans these threads and takes notes... Oh gee, probably not since the exact same problem continues :(

Rear engine door

I also had the same problem and decided to fix it right the first time .. I cleaned the surface areas off of the old epoxy and put strips of fiberglass with gel coat on the fiberglass door then used JB Weld to the metal frame then folded the fiberglass around the steel frame and gel coat it in place. Works great.

I just went through this on my 2006 Journey. When cleaning the areas to be rebonded, you need to sand the metal frame down to bare metal thus removing the powder coating paint from the metal frame. I then used JB Weld in all the original areas that were bonded by the factory and clamped for overnight curing. The result was a good as new engine compartment door.

I'm glad to read this thread. I'll be certain to keep a close eye on this problem. You would think by now the factory would get it right?
