Which socket to remove 2014 Via 25P passenger seat?
Hi all
Long time lurker, first time poster.
I need to get into the chassis electrical box to troubleshoot the battery mode solenoid. This box is under the passenger seat, which it seems I have to remove, because I don't see any access panels. The seat is installed with some bolts that look like inverted torx bolts, but they don't seem to match any of the standard sizes. The bolt head measures 12.1 mm point-to-point, which puts it between the E12 (11.1mm) and E14 (12.9mm) sockets.
Has anyne removed this seat before? Which type of socket did you use?

I’m told it’s an E socket set, size 14. I hope this is correct info. I don’t have any experience with these.
Does this look correct?

It looks correct to me, but so would E Plus type sockets, for example.

That looks like a T bolt head to me. I once had to remove a seat belt mount and had to find a T socket to fit it. I think it was a T-50 but I'm not quite sure. The auto parts stores have a lot of tools for automotive work and if you ask the clerk they might know exactly what size you need. Take your photo with along with you.

Found an E14 socket after a bit of a treasure hunt. It fit perfectly, despite the apparent point-to-point size disparity.

When I went to change one of the Solenoids, I was told it was under the seat, but I later found it was in the compartment just behind the door. My model is a 2011 VIa 25Q, so it may have moved. However, before you remove the seat, you might want to look in the cubby behind the door. Take off the panel that is in the front (towards the steps/batteries) and see if that isn't what you are looking for. FYI changing the solenoid wasn't fun. At the recommendation of BigB I upgraded to higher-quality solenoid, so hopefully I won't have to do it again.

I agree with Marty, on the View and Navion they pit it under the seat but on the Via I think you'll find it in that little compartment in front of your DEF tank, behind the 12 volt breaker panel. that's where mine is and I have the scars to prove it.

It looks like they may have changed it in 2012. I found this on the WB site and everything does appear to be under the passenger seat, although I don't understand how you can get to your 12 volt circuit breakers with no passenger door!
So on my seats the 4 e-torx bolts hold the seats to the pedestal but for the rear ones it's not possible to fit an e-torx socket in there so I used a 12 point ratcheting box wrench, I believe it was either 12 or 13mm. It's kind of tricky because the bols are too long to back out all the way without loosening them both and raising the rear of the seat up as you go so you can get the bolts all the way out. What happens is the bolt heads hit the seat tracks before you can get them all the way out.
Now that I think about it the 12 point box wrench may have been an 11mm. I can check tomorrow if you want, I'm in my PJs now!

BEFORE YOU GO IN THERE. Make sure you disconnect your batteries. Its a tight location and very easy to short to anything metallic.
