The $2.98 Upgrade

Another frustration resolved for $2.98. Don’t know if others found the lack of a door handle bothersome but it bugged me. The pull down shade still works without issue, the slider is clear of the screws, and the screws were cut after threading the holes in the first layer (no through holes). I’m all in for cheap and easy.

Good idea. I like it. Yes, the lack of a handle there is annoying.

Great Upgrade, $ 3.94 for me ...

LOVE THIS MOD !

I found everything you need to do it at Wal-Mart ...

#6 x 1/2" flat head screws $ 0.97
Bulldog Hardware Black Utility Pull $ 2.97

I already had other items needed:

3/32" drill bit and drill
Black Sharpie to blacken screw heads
Phillips Head Screwdriver

With the 1/2" length screws you don't have to saw or round the points.

Nice tip. I was thinking about that annoyance a couple weeks ago. I was considering locating a handle at the top of the screen door, as it appears strong enough to handle a slow retrieval of the door against the gas strut at the bottom. I bought a slightly weaker pressure strut, but 1/2" longer for my door so it opens more. After testing this by pulling the top of the door, it seems to be feasible to have a handle at the top AND the one in the middle, where yours is located. The advantage for the top handle is to easily reach it when standing up in the RV, instead of bending way over and out, or stepping down 2 stairs for retrieval. $6 upgrade HAH.

I like your 4 screw handle best. That's what I'll use too.

Some one pointed out to me that when using the new pull handle you are pulling thru the plastic piece that clips the screen door to the outer door if you use the handle when the two doors are snapped together. Looks like it might not be strong enough to handle the long term strain of using a pull handle on the screen door instead of the main door handle.

After that observation, I am now going to try to remember to use the new handle only in screen door mode.

I only use the new handle for closing the screen door. The main door is a bit too much for it.

How does that bar affect the pull down shade operation? Is yours mounted above the shade clip?

X2

Got our parts today but pretty sure we will need to mount it to the right and vertical from what the OP did as it gets in the way of the shade.

Got the handle at Lowe’s, one screw on each side. The pull down shade works fine, no interference from the handle at all. (See pics)
