storage 04 Adventurer 35u

we have a 2004 Adventurer 35u. Does anyone keep anything in the compartment above the lp tank? The opening is somewhat small and you can see a large tank inside, I think its the black tank but not sure.

Several years ago, several friends were sitting around my 2001 Adventurer and I opened the storage door to the propane tank. There was a metal cover above the tank which was attached by several screws. Of course, we all wondered what was behind the cover. I removed it and discovered a large space...perfect for storage. Yes, one of the plastic tanks was visible at the back. After some thought, I inserted a wood "wall" across the back and right side to isolate my new compartment from space behind it.
I now have a place to put 2 lawn chairs, small table, and many miscl tools.
I have been doing this for many years now and it has been one of the best "finds" for my unit.

My '02 has a back panel in the compartment so the plastic tank isn't exposed. Since the LPG compartment isn't locked you wouldn't want to put anything of value there. Since it's under the BR slide I don't want to be getting into it all the time while the slide was extended, so I'm using it for my wheel chocks, tire covers and a door mat. It would be nice for long skinny things and, except for the lack of a lock, it would be nice for fishing rods.

2X4 angle cut on one end to pry the jacks with if they stick, sponge mop for cleaning the outside, blocks of wood, windshield squeegee and anything else that I might need conveniently at hand that's cheap to replace.

It would be a simple matter to put a keyed lock on the compartment door, but I seem to faintly remember there may be a legal reason the propane access door should never be locked. Does anyone know for sure?

I don't know if it's a legal requirement but it definitely is a safety issue. I certainly wouldn't do it.
