slide out issue - motor problem?

2008 Sightseer 34M
The front motor on my living room slide out makes cyclic “revving” sound when extending the slide out. It changes travel speed as it “revs” up and down.
It seems like it should be a voltage problem, but the rear motor works fine, with no cyclic sounds. I do have the main engine running.
When go to retract the slide out, I have to give it a push from the outside while my wife holds the button down before it will retract. It makes the same “rrrRRRrrr” noise going in.
It almost seems like the motor is struggling...
Based on this limited info, I’m wondering if this problem sounds familiar ?

I suspect a failing motor.

Sounds like it could also be a stripped gear. Motor may be reving when encountering the missing teeth. It may be needing a push to get going if it is stopped while the missing teeth are supposedly engaged.

Iwould go with stripped gears as possible.
Think of the sound a car engine makes when not in gear versus when it is pulling? As itcomes to the portion ofgear that is not making it work hard, the motor may speed up and then when the other motor has moved things far enough for the gear to reengage, the motor slows as is has to work more.
Not something I would want to do very long as it would seem to be putting a lot of strain on the good motor and gear? Possible something else like the long shaft not right, also but requires the same look see.
