DW and I checked out a 35J this past weekend. In the past with my 1988 Superchief, only one AC could be run at one time. When I asked, the salesman said both would run at the time even with only 30 amp service. He said they do. Realizing that his lips were moving, I ask you 35J owners, do they both run at the same time?

Yes both work, if you use the gen or your pluged to 30 amp power the amp power with both running is about 20/22 amps

I'm not 100% certain, but I think I read that the a/c units are set to not cycle on at full load at the same time, so they don't draw maximum amperage at the exact same moment.

Correct, the load management system will not allow the two ACs to start at the same time.
Also if they are both running and you start up another heavy load such as an electric heater, the system will first turn off the rear AC compressor, then the fan if necessary.

I know for certain you can run both on the Genset since its a 50amp generator. I haven't yet run both on 30amp service however. As so much changes year to year its hard to say what works on an 05 will work on one of these 35J 07s. To be honest I think you would be well advised to give Winnebago a call and get a firm answer from them if this is a deal breaker for you. Living in the NW we don't use that much AC so it wasn't a deal break for us.

Email might do the trick too, Owner Relations - [email protected]

I know you can run both a/c because I have a 35J 2007 picked it up on oct 31 2006. First trip was to vages 95 degrees that week also was staying at koa circus/circus witch in on asphlat. We were pluged into 30amp and it ran fine not much power left could watch tv and do other small thing but if microwave or hairdryer on a/c would have to go off

littlegage - thanks for the post good to know it worked on the 07 37J! We're going to Zion this summer and I was a bit concerned about it myself.

Welcome to the forum! Glad to have another 35J owner on this site.

Thanks for the input. We're on the west side of the mountains, so wouldn't need it much around here. However the planned cross mountain and cross country trips would require it. 95 In an asphalt parking lot is about as bad as it could get most places I'll be.

We've been able to use both ACs whenever we needed to. Combined while running they use less than 15 amps. We plug into 20 amp outlets at one of our favorite parks and never have any problems with running the AC. With the energy management system controlling the draw it will shut the rear AC off temporarily if needed like when we have the microwave, electric hot water heater, and everything else electrical running at the same time, but I can recall that only happening once since we bought our RV, and as soon as the microwave shut off the rear ac came back on again, we didn't even notice any difference in the inside temperature of our motorhome when this happened. Based on our experience I would never order a RV with 50 amp as I've never seen the need for it. Our friends who have 50 amp service used to wrestle with that big thick cord until they got 30 amp cord to use with adaptor and they don't even use the 50 amp outlets now even when it's available. Another friend that used to have 50 amp in their King of the Road 5th wheel ordered their new motorhome with 30 amp- there just wasn't any need for the 50!

The roof AC units on our 2013 Adventurer draw far less amperage of the basement air in our 2001 Adventurer. On startup each roof unit draws about 10 amps, with about 16 amps under full ooad, The older basement air would peak at about 26 amps on startup and draw around 21 amp under full load. Either of them could run all the compressors on 30 amps.
