I am by far an expert on this. The shower pan should have a lip on it. I do not know how much of a lip will climb up the wall of your unit. The fiberglass/plastic wall of the shower stall will go over the lip and rest on the edge of the shower pan its self. Now for the caulking, I have always read that where the shower wall meets the pan base should be left caulk free. The reason is so moisture from behind has a place to drain down to.
