Replacing Ideal Rest Mattress

I just purchased a 2012 Winnebago Tour 42 AD and I am curious to know if anybody has replaced the king size ideal rest air mattress with some other type of mattress other than air. If so, could someone give me suggestions what you replaced it with? Thank you

Hi.
Well, the correct sleep comfort is one of the most important points for a good quality of life and so mattresses are naturally always a very personal matter. Therefore our experience is of course just our solution, but we are very satisfied with it.

We (Forza 34T) were not satisfied with the Ideal Rest Air Mattress on the main bed. The sleeping comfort was similar to a mediocre motel at a junction in the middle of nowhere between interstate and gas station but not for something you spent 200'000 bucks and should really recover during your holidays.

The main issue is probably not so much the Air Mattress system, but the lack of a slatted frame. We found the solution in the Froli-Star System (by Nickle Atlantic; https://nickleatlantic.com/products/...r-sleep-system) ($200) and a Memory Foam Mattress from Ikea ($320; please test the mattress before buying it). This is very easy to install and adjustable according to personal requirements.
A further advantage of the Froli system is that the mattress does not lie directly on the board and that there is a kind of ventilation under the mattress. This is important for hygienic reasons. We sleep very well on it and the recovering is great.

The Ideal Rest Bed was dismantled including the pump and given away as a gift.

We removed the Ideal-Rest mattress in our 2017 Adventurer about 2-yrs ago.

We purchased one of the many “bed in a box” foam mattresses sold online, such as Casper, Purple, etc.we bought a “Lessa” California King.

Lots of folks worry that the bed tilt when retracting the bed slide will somehow ruin these mattresses when stored folded for long periods of time. But we’ve not found this to be a problem at all. This subject has come up many times and folks worried about the bed tilt have phoned the mattress companies asking if the bed will still be warranted if stored folded over time. Of course, these companies have no idea and usually reply that the warranty does not cover such a use. But, again we’ve seen no problems from this.

The ideal-Rest King is an RV King sized mattress and is not the same size as a regular king. It’s 2” narrower than a regular king. We’ve found the California King is the correct width, but 2” longer than the RV King.

There is no way to accommodate any wider mattress in our RV. The side “tables” on either side of the mattress limit this width. But, there was a way to accommodate a 2” longer mattress in our RV. We removed the headboard on the wall behind the mattress and our Cali King Leesa fit perfectly.

We find the Leesa to be pretty firm but I’m sure that’s a result of the bed base being a sheet of plywood. Regardless it’s vastly better than the Ideal-Rest.

Here is the Leesa in place withe the headboard removed - it was super easy to remove it’s all one piece and mounted with 4-small screws, one in each corner.

Thank you for you input. I did get the bed fixed so I'm going to give it a couple of trips to see how comfortable it is. I ordered the coupler that connects to the pump and replaced it from Inomax and right now all is good. Thanks again!

When we immediately replaced our mattress we went straight to a bed in a box as well. No regrets. The one thing we have found, or thankfully thought of before we ordered is mattress height. You may find many standard mattresses are much to higher or thick to fit the space in an RV. Often there is overhead storage or a sloping ceiling in trailers. So we specifically chose our foam mattress to be one of the thinner models and it’s about 7” thick which was very close to the stock thickness of the bag of springs that came in our 31bhds. Ours came from a Canada land manufacturer by the name Juno from a website called goodmorning.com. And possibly best of all it’s lighter than many other foam mattresses at 56lbs for a Queen and inexpensive at 400canadian pesos. So our stock lifter struts on the under bed storage still do their job. Anyways I agree that beds are personal. But factor in the little things that could ruin an otherwise good mattress.

We just put in a standard residential mattress from a local mattress store. Nice and comfy now!
