Hello everyone,

I have been looking at and enjoying this forum for some time now. My goal has been to one day buy a Winnebago or Itasca diesel pusher. This will be a big step up from my 31' Class 'C'.

I am looking at a new 2008 Tour 40WD that has been on the lot for 6 months. It is fully loaded with just about all of the factory options. The dealer's current offer is 24.5% off of MSRP and he is giving me wholesale price for my present coach. Is this reasonable? Or should I be able to get more in this market? How much more?

This seems kind of crazy to be buying a big rig with the market crashing down all around us. But if I do not do it now, I may never get around to it.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I don't know if you're free and clear on your current coach or nor but I don't think you'll get over wholesale anywhere even if you try and sell it yourself. I also think this is a good time to buy - offer them wholesale too and see what they say.

Can you get a better deal - who really knows? Look on the Web at what other dealers are asking and you'll get an idea.

Biggest factor of all - are you happy with the the offer?

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. See if you can get them to throw in a few extra add ons and hold their feet to the fire a little more, should work. The Tour is a verey nice coach and should give you years ofgreat service.

Bill & Elaine,

We bought a 2007 Tour 40TD (brand new but leftover) in June and LOVE IT. We got about 28% off MSRP so 25% for a newer model year coach is in the same ball park. We took a loss on our trade but I knew that I could not easily unload it in this market.

In June, diesel was going for about $4.75 a gallon so I used that as my leverage. I gambled that diesel would go down and it has.

Now is DEFINITELY a good time to buy providing you can swing the financing and you're not cashing in your whole nest egg for your motor home. Remember payments, insurance, and maintenance will be higher with the new coach.

Good luck and make your decision based on a sound financial analysis - not just your heart...

As Rocket Heart says' if you're happy with the offer, that's a big factor.
I ordered my '04 Vectra in Sept.'03 and was able to get 22.5% off the MSRP. It's always hard to tell when a trade-in is involved. I also had a trade and was happy with the deal, so if the floor plan and all fits your needs then go for it.
Happy trails.

Bought my 2007 Itasca Meridian 36G, July 21st 2007 @ 26.3% disco. "Supposedly" I paid - (he showed me the screen) - $1873 over invoice.

Saw the paperwork on the sales manager's desk for a 34H that was sold 1/2 hr before, optioned exactly like my 36G, and they negotiated a 19.3% disco.

I was playing two dealers off each other (which, I don't really like to do). I found out later that, in working with both Sales Managers, they're personal rivals on everything!!! Worked to my advantage. Plus the unit I bought was better optioned and has the dark cherry cabinets (exactly what we wanted).

You will love a TOUR. We ordered a 2008 TOUR 40TD last April. Waited 8 weeks, but chose our model, color and options. A perfect Motor Home for us. We got 25% off list, and received $5000 more than wholesale for our trade-in. I suggest you check out RVs.com. There have been a lot of 2008 TOUR's listed by dealers for great prices.

Well we went ahead and did it. Next Wednesday we go pick up the 2008 Tour 40WD. I got another $5K taken off which puts me at 26.5% off of MSRP. And he is giving me what I think is a very good price on my trade based on its age and condition. In addition, we are getting another $4K manufacturer rebate.

We went out for a ride in it this afternoon. What a nice ride. Sure is different from my '97 Class 'C'.

Thanks for all your replies.

We love our 2008 Tour TD and I think you will like yours as well. We bought from Licthsinn and found them to be very competitive. I am not sure of the exact % discount we received given our trade in, but Licthsinn was the best bottom line when compared to several dealers. I do think you deal sounds pretty good and if it is the coach you like, I would jump on it. Believe me, as you are pushed down the road with the smooth 400hp, it will be worth it!

Best of luck
