I'm finally going to take the plunge and purchase a new Journey. Does anyone have any do's or dont's or suggestions that would help me when I go to make the deal?

HI Sammie, tell us more about the journey you are looking at. Who's the dealer? Do you have the options list? Whats the MSRP? How much are they asking? Have you road tested it yet? Are you buying outright or trading?

Sammie when I started looking I went to orderdirectrv.com to get a price quote then compared to my local dealer. I personally don't mind paying a bit more for a good local dealer, which I have, but their price gave me a good comparison of what a low overhead price could be. Price is important to me, as with anyone but service after the sale is equally important. Happy shopping!

Sammie, if the Journey you are looking at is a 2006 model, you should get 14% - 20% off MSRP without much resistance. Class A MH's are selling, but not fast. IMHO

Actually you should be able to get better than 25% off list, as this is a 2006 leftover. The factory has been making 2007's since spring '06. Try to negotiate down to invoice or below (I was shown the invoice on my '07).
Depending on how long this unit has been sitting on the lot, be sure to have oil/filter changed, and check battery performance. If the unit has been on the lot for over 180 days (possibly could have been on the lotupwards of 360 days by now) I would negotiate for new batteries as well, as I am sure the unit has not been driven much, and not been plugged in to AC to charge house batteries as well. Once they go dead, they no longer hold the charge as they did when new.
Good luck on your purchase.
P.S. Don't get frustrated by all the 'Punch List' items you will have to deal with after the purchase. This is standard operating procedure. Once you get your coach tuned, you will really love it.

Sammie - You are going to love that coach. My advice is to make sure you can read the computer information center module in the dash. Do a search on the topic here and acquaint yourself with the details. If you can not read the remote module, negotiate a replacement for the improved module. Otherwise you'll find you need to spend an additional $191.00 out of your own pocket to buy the improved version. If the unit already has the new module, never mind this post.
Larry
PS I highly recommend the computer dinet as it is so much more versatile.

I went yesterday to negotiate the list price of $207,774. I was able to get them down to $155,838 which is 25% off list. I am still trying to get them down another $1000 or so. I will let you know how it goes.

Invoice is approx. 71.5% of list. Tell them you will buy it at invoice and ask to see the invoice. No arguments this way.
Good luck!

Thank you all for your input on my 2006 Journey purchase. I closed the deal yesterday and will be trading in my 2000 Adventurer. The list price was $207,774 and I ended up paying $155,000 plus tax and license. I was also able to get them to replace all coach and chassis batteries. I will be picking it up in two weeks and then the fun starts.

Sammie,
Congratulations on your purchase! You will love the motorhome. Take time going through it with the dealer to learn all its in's an out's. Start making a list of the items you find after you get it home. This is standard operating procedure.
Good news that you got the new batteries.
Happy and safe travels!
