Just Changed The AntiFreeze 07 Journey CAT C7

For anyone interested in changing their own anti-freeze. I wasn't sure how much anti-freeze would be required and now I know. 9.5 gallons. I disconnected the lower radiator hoses and drained the engine, radiator and blew out the lines going to the dash heater. Also found 4 hose clamps in extremely poor condition and replaced them. Total cost $150.

And that would be on what engine?

Just changed mine too, along with the surge tank. Did you use CAT ELC? If so, you got a really good price for 10 gals.

Went to Beam Mack and purchased Rotella ELC. They knocked off a couple dollars per gallon since I purchased 10 gallons.

Thank you. Apparently the OP didn't think that info was important to others.

Can't win them all. If that's your biggest duh moment for the year your doing good. I've had bigger duh moments before breakfast some days.

How did you change it? I've heard that you have to do some special things when you refill it or you will have air in the tank and overheating?

Antifreeze

I'm curious what you did with the antifreeze you drained out. It's pretty toxic and many critters (dogs especially) think it tastes great.

When I called CAT they told me to use Fleetcharge antifreeze with SCA, and to be very careful not to get air in the heater lines or I would have 'big problems'.

Since I have no way to dispose of 30+ quarts of used antifreeze I decided to let Freightliner do it regardless of the cost.
